    The greatest singer/songwriter of his generation.

    Dave Matthews has a lot to answer for!:p

    Only joking. DG is a really strong songwriter, but don't find his voice all that compelling tbh. Question of taste I suppose.

    I don't know how far away you are, but he's right outside my office window!

    Someone please check on me in an hour, I may be suicidal by then... :rolleyes:

    Puts me to sleep every time: 'think its a combination of his driveling/maudlin lyrics and the total lack of soul in the music.

    Thats complete bollox.

    The guy is an amazing talent.
    In the singer songwriter genre there is simply no one better than him around.

    Jeff Buckley
    Tom Waits
    Leonard Cohen
    Johnny Cash
    Bob Dylan
    Damien Rice

    OK, some of those are no longer around, but your statement is clearly ridiculous.

    Waits = OK

    Cohen = Ancient

    Cash = Dead

    Dylan = Ancient

    Rice = Dont be silly

    Okay, whilst I think Rice is a wally, he has some great songs...so just because Cohen and Dylan are ancient and the other two dead theyre automatically sh*te?

    I suppose, makes sense you like David Gray so much..

    Or could it just be that musical taste is subjective, and you'll never be able to get an objective quantifiable measurement of which singer is better than which?

    Alternatively, enjoy your flame war...

    Went to David Grey when he was at the Arts Festival before and found that every bit of his materian is much the same and quite tedious. Left before the bloody thing was over and would never go near a concert of his again. And no, he is not a particularly good songwriter. 90% of the crowd will come to hear Babylon and then go away thinking it was a brilliant concert. Next.

    I didn't say they were sh!t.

    Im just making the point that of living breathing songsmiths of my generation Gray is the best.

    I don't think so. Gray isn't great. His lyrics are good. Thats about it. The music is boring and his voice is pretty plain.

    The best living, breathing singer/songerwriter at the moment? Probably Ray LaMontagne.

    Fair enough. Point taken, agree to disagree...

    Anyway, he's yesterday's man and the organisers of the Arts Festival must have been stuck or short of readies to invite him back. Bring on Femi Kuti!

    I'd like to see you release a record that appealed to everyone.

    Don't like him? Don't buy a ticket.

    Sucks if you live beside it, but that's life.
