    Hi All,

I registered my company name with the CRO and without telling anyone or registering any information with my company name i received a "marketing" letter from a company in the UK 1 week after registration, asking if i want to have a website with my company name and that this and this website is available.

Now i presume that they took this information from the cro website but i want to know where an how ? Is there a updated list of newly formed companies and their addresses added to the cro website somewhere ??

    Thanks,

I think the CRO sell it on, it's disgraceful that they can.

wow... are you sure and if yes than it is indeed disgraceful and should be illegal. Also i don't it would be fair for other companies since it is clear that this approach gives them a huge advantage

The CRO publishes a list weekly showing new formations.

It is called the CRO Gazette which will provide a name and a number but not the address information..

any business I've registered has followed with a posted letter from the same UK hosting/web company as mentioned above. It's much slicker than just being picked out of a weekly list.

    Indeed.

But there is nothing to stop someone going online and obtaining the address. It is freely available information. The CRO Gazette makes it very easy for marketeers.

By the way ,you are right they sell it off for a 5 digit anual fee that will provide all information (So company name , registration number , address etc etc)

but it is "free" for the public and small businesses but it is a pain in the ass finding it..

    1. download the weekly gazette ( http://www.cro.ie/ena/downloads.aspx )
    2. Go to the search and type in the number you can find in the gazette
    3. Validate the Captcha
    4. Here is the information you are looking for

Because this information is free and i think that the CRO should provide the information in bulk for free like they do for their paying companies i try to script something that will get all the information..

    Anyone want to help ?

Lots of companies out there who will sell you company accounts etc. for a fee, I assume they pay an annual fee for access. I guess the idea is the system should be transparent and anyone can see who is operating a company before they deal with them -unfortunately that leaves it open to the junk mail group as well. Surprised you only got one letter I think we got 4-5 when the company was formed.
