Car Battery Dead? Jumpstarting?

Went out to start my car this morning (haven't driven it in a week or two and its a '99) and there wasn't a kick out of it. I turned the key and nothing happened.

Someone told me that the battery is probably dead because I'd left it inactive. Would this be right?

I'm getting a lend of some jump leads. How exactly do I use them? Do I just connect the tops of one end to my car and then the tops of the other end to the battery of another car and start both cars or what?

    • connect the positive of one battery to the other battery.
    • connect the negetive of one battery to the other battery.
not nessarily in that order though
    • start the car that is running ok.
    • give it a minute or two with a few light revs as your battery is completely dead.
    • then try start your car.
    • if it starts, disconnect everything while leaving your car running, and go on a long drive and try get in some motorway, 120kmph driving too.

kceire, Just added a bit more to your advice to avoid any misunderstanding. Hope you don't mind.

Not always! I recently bought jump leads and both positives need to be connected but the negative needs to be connected to the good battery and the body of the bad car! So double check the instructions
