Hi, i currently drive a car-van, have it commercially insured and taxed. insurance is due for renewal and private insurance seems better value. If i get it privately insured, will i have to change my tax next time around to private tax, don`t want to do this as its a 2.2 diesel.

I reckon you would have to change the basis of taxation (or rather the tax office will do that for you).
By changing to private insurance, you would not be covered in an accident for damage to any items you happened to be carrying in the van at the time.
I remember back in the early 90's there was a run on buying car/vans cos of low vrt & tax and people were insuring them as private.
But like a lot of things nowadays, that loophole was closed off by the government.
