Power cable for My laptop

The power cable for my Toshiba laptop no longer works. I got a new one from a friend but it seems to have been for a smaller model so, although it works if it's plugged in all the time (with dim lighting), if I plug it out for any length of time - when plugged back in, the battery wastes away and eventually it switches off. then takes ages to charge.

All of the above is unimportant background - I think.

Where should I go to get my own power cable fixed and will it be cheap? I think the problem lies with the connection to the laptop. Near the end of it's life, I could get it to work my fiddling with it. But no more :(

I don't think you'll be able to get it fixed. you'll need to look about purchasing a new one.

As said already, pointless getting the adaptop fixed. Ya can get replacements cheap enough. Ring toshiba for a replacement. With the fiddling your talking about it could be the DC socket is gone.

Best bet is to confirm first if it is the adaptor. Ask all your mates have they got the correct adaptor to confirm.

Repairing a power supply DC input plug can be dodgy as the polarities could get crossed which will blow your motherboard.

Also be very careful of cheap aftermarket Chinese replacement power supplies sold on EBay. I have heard horror stories about them including wrong voltage settings and reverse polarities on the DC input. You are better off buying it over the counter here or genuine from a main agent.
