Dream Videogame Roundtable

The fantasy dinner party pops up in after hours quite a bit, and after thinking about it, while most people have famous actors or sports stars, I would have a few people from the games industry.

That got me thinking about a specific videogame roundtable.

So, if you could chair a roundtable, pick the brains of industry-types, even just have a chat/few drinks with them... Who would your 6-12 people be?

    Tim Shafer
    Cliff Blezinski
    Gabe Newell
    Peter Moore
    Peter Molyneux
    David Jaffe
Shigeru Miyamoto (not sure how anyone could omit this guy?)
    Hideo Kojima
    Yu Suzuki
    Shinji Mikami
    Hironobu Sakaguchi
    Jonathan Blow (Purely for Braid)
Ken Levine (Ditto, but for Bioshock)

No particular order there, and I know Moore is a marketing-head as opposed to producer, but so am I, hence the interest.

Anybody care to share...? Or mock my inclusion of CliffyB :o

Can't slag off your inclusion of Cliffy B. I'd say he would be well up pints afterwards, then cigars and lapdancing clubs :)

    Mine wouls be:

    Suda 51
    Shigeru Miyamoto
    Cliffy B
    Shinji Mikami
    Hitoshi Sakimoto
Ken Levine (for system shock 2)
    Yasumi Matsuno
Yukio Futatsugi (please do another panzer game!)
    Stuart Campbell

Don't forget John Romero, just so he can sit there in an awkward silence, and feel what it's like now that everyone in the room is making him their b!tch... oh the irony.

Can't we not forgive him, he did help with Doom, Doom 2 and Quake?

It's a shame that he is now stuck in the mobile phone game industry.

    Jade Raymond

I think people give him too much cred. Carmack was the brains of that outfit. You only have to look at what both of them went on to accomplish since they split.

This from Romeros wiki page really adds insult to injury:

"In September of 2008 John Romero told That Gaming Site that Severity was canceled, but Tom Mustaine contacted the site to inform them the project was not canceled but in "stealth mode" citing John Romero was "let out of the loop"."

    ouch

Well Carmack was the genius behind the game engines, there's no way anyone can refure that. However Romero did do a lot of the best levels for those games. I think the problem with Romero is that he doesn't understand that when he is making a videogame he needs to work with in the limitations of what can be realistically achieved. In other words he was fine at Id when he had other people making the design and financial decisions and he was just there as a level designer.

Duke Nukem is a failure now
    Add in Kratos and Dante

And for those interested in the 2 Johns story, PlayValue did a great short on it. Well worth a watch !! :D

Is this real people or ingame characters? I'd have a similar list as Retr0's, with Jade Raymon and Nobuo Uematsu thrown in there.

    Ingame people, i'd have...

    Alyx Vance (Half Life)
    Barney Calhoun (Half Life)
    Nozomi Harasaki (shenmue)
    Paulie (Mafia)
    Jeanette Voerman (Vampire: Bloodlines)
    Nathan Drake (Uncharted)
Darunia (Dancing Goron on Zelda OoT)
    Sylvester "Sly Boots" Bucelli (Anachronox)
    PAL-18 (Anachronox)
    Minsc (Baldur's Gate)
    GLaDOS (Portal)
    Earthworm Jim

That's make an interesting party :pac:

exactly, it would make carmack realise what made doom great and go back to that ultra shooty style of game (ss2 wasnt bad, especially in co-op)

    for characters in game:
    Eddie Honda
    Barret from FF7
    Samus

more of a triangle then a table but i reckon they could get stuff done

Real people, in game characters would be something altogether different...

Lara Croft, I hope she puts out.
The guy from Deadspace but he's not much of a talker.
