    Hi,

We would like to know if anyone has experienced the need to use a wedding insurer  and can someone recommend a good wedding insurance company?

    Thank you

I really can't see the need for one? Just pay minimum deposits and get it confirmed in writing.
It seems like another money making scam for insurance companies!

We only paid deposits for the hotel, the photographer and €50 to the band (his choice). The rest had to be paid either on the day or within a few days of the wedding.

For 99e its probably worth the piece of mind (depending on how much you are spending), but hope you never have to claim off them as they will make you jump through so many hoops its not funny.

I had to claim on travel insurance earlier in the year and it was PAINFUL. They make it that hard its almost not worth the agro

We have paid €8000 in deposits already :( and would hate to lose that money should the venue or band etc. declare themselves insolvent or closed.

Recommendations for good reputable Wedding insurance companies would be appreciated

    Thank you :)

Google them. They are pretty much the same. Pick what package is right for you.

I'm getting married in October & have been looking at wedding insurance too - starting to mildly freak out about the whole Swine Flu situation and the possible impact it could have on both the wedding day itself and the honeymoon. Worst case scenario is that there could be a ban on public gatherings and international travel

I'm probably (hopefully) being a paranoid eejit but have mailed a couple of wedding insurance providers to see what the craic is anyway. Will let you know if i hear anything back

We got ours with http://www.irishweddinginsurance.ie/..policy is underwritten by Hastings (Westport) Ltd T/A Hastings & Co, J J McNicholas, Killeen Insurances.

€109 for peace of mind was worth it in our opinion. They have a lot of different packages, just aim for the one that gives you that peace of mind.

Folks, talk of getting wedding insurance when your wedding is so near is risky, some policies wont let you take insurance out unless the wedding is more than 3 months away so just read up on that before you dive in. Makes sense really, someone taking out insurance with 6 weeks to go and then suddenly cancels the wedding and tries to claim on the insurance...you can see where they are coming from...

What would you be looking for insurance for? Most suppliers would be covered by relevant insurance i.e. public liability and professional indemnity.

I think it'd be handy if, gods forbid, one of you were to fall ill and the wedding had to be postponed. Depending on how long you had to postpone it for, you could lose your deposits. Also covers if the hotel goes into liquidation, which is a real risk these days unfortunately.

check if any of the service provdiors are advertisers with weddings online, they qualify for free PLI so say for example your band pulled out, your deposit is automatically covered.

Even if not with that site, a lot of service providors carry PLI anyway PLUS deposit guarantees (whihc of course arent the same thing). If its an issue for you, get it clarified with each providor. Get ease of mind even if you dont get insurance.

Make sure you read through the Ts&Cs very carefully. Some companies will only cover stuff booked after the policy is taken out, so say you book your photographer, then a few weeks later you get your insurance, but if your photographer doesn't show up on the day it's not covered. It might be worth paying a bit more for cover that's very comprehensive. I've heard of a couple of people who got caught out over stuff that was in the fine print, but they never really read through it.
