    saw this story today.

heard on Pat Kenny show Alan Shatter claims the original cost of work at the end of june was €400,000, but its since been reduced to €230,000

how the hell does it cost so much to lay a lawn?
i'll bet there's plenty of companies who could do it alot cheaper.

It was a temporary car park built in 1999, which had to be undone within 10 years to avoid violating planning law.

No the best timing but hardly criminal.

Why don't they put a bloody great Luas/Train station there instead of ripping up the road around Stephen's Green?

This has nothing to do with saving public money. It has to do with TDs wanting to keep their temporary car park. The original plan was for an underground car park, this has now been scrapped because of the ways things are. So if the conditions of the planning are kept the legislators and their pals will lose the car parking spaces. So you stop this by going on the radio and complaining about the cost. This amount of money could easily be saved by abolishing one ministerial car or any number of other measures. Laying lawns is fairly labour intensive work and is probably as good a thing as anything else.
