Getting rid of heating oil

I will be renovating a townhouse next year and I have inherited an oil tank which is 1/2 to 3/4 full of home heating oil. The tank will have to be cut up as there is very little space in the back and its the only way I can remove the tank. I will be putting in gas heating instead. I would just like to know if the the oil companies would buy it back or if there is any other way of disposing of the oil. Thanks.

No oil supplier will take back old oil, they'd rather sell you the new stuff.
My advice is to decant the oil into large drums and stick up an ad on DoneDeal or the like offering the oil for next to nothing. Your phone will hop i'd say.

The environmental clean up companies that deal with oil spills might take it. some are good, some are dubious, but I know of one that built a mini generation plant using the mopped up oil spills and sells power back to the grid. Maybe they can do something for you.
    Will pm you the details.

+1 on niceirish try your local buy and sell etc. But be careful the oil is not dirty or mixed with water, this can happen a lot with idol tanks. The last thing you want is to be buying a new boiler for the person you passed the oil onto.
