2009 Dr. Pat O'Callaghan Weight Throwing Championships

    On Saturday 25th of July the Irish Throwers Club (ITC) will hold a competition in Banteer, Co. Cork to commemorate 1928 and 1932 Olympic gold medallist Dr. Pat O’Callaghan with a hammer throw competition for juvenile, junior, senior and masters men and women.

    With the kind permission of his family the ITC has been allowed to dedicate a perpetual cup to Dr. O’Callaghan which will be awarded to the winner of the senior men’s competition. The winner of the senior women’s competition will be awarded the ITC Emer Cup. The competition will also comprise 56lb for distance competitions, men’s and women’s.

    Entry per event is €5 and to enter please contact ITC Secretary James Nagle at nagle010@yahoo.ie or 0872184577 before Thursday 23rd July. There is a late entry fee for entries after this date.

    I have absolutely nothing to do with "throwing" but I did know Dr. O'Callaghan before he died. He was my doctor when I was a child. I had no idea I was in the presence of a such a legend and it's great to see that he is being remembered in this way.
