    Hi,

Has any one got any experience of the Univeristy of Utrecht or even Utrecht as a place?

I may have the chance to go study there and would be great to get an update on the place before I decide.

I'm off to google up on it!!

    Thanks for any info

I've studied at Utrecht University for the past two years (going to Ireland on erasmus in my third year)! I'll give you some general info but if you have any specific questions, just ask me. :)

I really love the UU and although I'm really looking forward to the coming year, I will miss the UU. I was in the department of English (faculty of humanities) so almost all of my lessons were given in the city centre, in beautiful historical buildings. If you're not a student in the faculty of humanities or a law student, you will have to go to the "uithof" to go to class. All the important offices for those teachers will be there as well, while myteachers are all in the city centre. The student service and the book shop are also represented in both locations :)

The UU is the biggest university in Holland and is one of the best, although I have to say all Dutch universities are pretty much at the same level.

Student life in Utrecht is great, we have loads of places to go out, most clubs and pubs are open until 4/5 at night and thursday is usually the student night where most places will reduce or remove entrance fees (for students) or drinks will be a lot cheaper. Most restaurants offer a student menu on selected days or throughout the week. This is usually around 6-8 euros for a main course.

I don't know if the international office at the UU provides housing for incoming international students but if they don't: Utrecht has a huge housing problem for students. I used to live in a tiny room in a bad house for 325 a month. The only good thing about it was that it was under 10 minutes to the city (on bike)

Which brings me to another point.. You will need a bike in Utrecht! every dutchie starts riding a bike at a very young age and they will mostly always use their bike to go anywhere (as long as it's not too far away of course). From classes to going out. Oh and make sure to buy at least two locks ;)

Can't really think of anything else right now.. So just ask me if there's anything you'd like to know :)

I can't say much about the university as I have not attended, but I love the Netherlands and Utrecht is a beautiful place. The location is great as you can hit up any of the major cities in no time by train. Oh, and the public transport system is on point. The train system is superb.

I'd say it would be a great experience. I spent last summer in Den Haag working as an au pair, and I loved it. I travelled all over, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Groningen and Friesland. It was great. I love the culture and the people as well. I'm currently learning Dutch.

Anyway, if you decide to go, enjoy.

Whats up guys, I'm looking into Utrecht also. Is the housing problem really that bad?! Rent seems pretty steep!

    Friend of mine went there.

He absolutely loved it, found it a mighty university.
