    Hi

No experience of Madrid myself but have you tried www.hostelworld.com?

It lists most of the hostels/cheap hotels in the area and also has traveller reviews so you can get an idea of what the place is like.

    Hi OP

I stayed here 2 years ago and it was great!

The rooms are very cheap, but nice and clean, most have a small balcony

Showers are shared, but again, they're clean enough

The rooms had card reader locks, and each occupant got a card each

The staff are really friendly, and helpful. the hostel organizes loads of stuff to do

They have a PC to use with internet at reception, and free wifi, although its kinda slow!

In an AMAZIN spot too, about a 5/10 min walk to Sol, the centre of Madrid
Great central hub for the Metro too!

As long as you dont wander around the corridors shouting in the middle of the night like some of my mates, I 100% recommend it!

That is if they still accept Irish visitors now

Haha, good luck! Madrid is deadly! :)

And ye hafta visit Parque Warner! ;)
    and O'Connel street!

Sorry to be kinda off topic, but if you're going to Madrid what you will need more than anything is earplugs. If you forget your phone, your iPod, your guidebooks it doesn't matter. Just bring earplugs!!! You could end up with an interior room which has a window out the back, but if you end up with a room overlooking the street, you won't get a wink of sleep without them. The streets are really narrow, you've got mopeds moving constantly echoing in the narrow streets, and the fact that the Spanish have no concept of noise and aren't the type of people to wander home from the pub at 10pm, you're gonna need the earplugs. They're absolute lifesavers. There's nothing worse than walking around a city on holidays with eyes hanging out of your head from tiredness. Sorry to rant on a bit, but I'd probably have ended up smothering myself with the pillow if I didn't have them.

Now to get back to the topic, Hostal Pacios is really central in Madrid. Close to metro, overground rail for going to Toledo and it's close to the main square, Plaza del Sol. No dorms there, but private rooms are quite reasonable and really clean.
