think the only way would be to sign up to a UK based vpn service, so you would vpn in and get assigned a ip address from a UK subnet.

I think what he is saying is essentially use a british telecoms networks internet settings which would then surely assign you a british IP address and you wouldn't be blocked by the bbc as a result.

But I have just read the iplayer only does streaming over Wifi on an iphone so that wont help either.

The other issue is even if there was a way to go through a proxy for streaming, is that it will be very slow even if you can manage to get it to work.

So for the moment and seeing as your asking on here for someone else to tell you how to do it I would say to the OP no there is no way to circumvent this

Could you set up a vpn at home and use 3G to connect that way?

A VPN would still be using the IP addesses/ports assigned to your modem by your ISP. A browser is the only way I know of to hide behind a proxy.

There is an area in your wifi settings on the iPhone that allows you input manually a http proxy, but I haven't been able to get the UK proxy I use working. (Click on blue arrow of your wifi network in Wi-Fi Settings, and scroll down to the bottom).
