hey guys i gave up membership in my local course a couple of years back and am now looking to find somewehere to join on the cheap to reactivate my gui handicap, but dont want to spend too much. I'm living in cork but work as a rep covering Limerick and Kerry.Ideally the club would have to be 60-90 mins drive from Cork city. I've checked out a few places and have come up with a few options:
Slievenamon (Tipp) €180 - distance membership
    Abbeyfeale (Limerick) €250
    Glengarriff (West Cork) €360
Ballykisteen (Tipp) €650 - distance membership

I've played Ballykisteen before and liked it,only problem the distance membership offer only applies to members of other clubs.
Checked out Blarney but just missed the boat, membership now capped!!

anybody have any suggestions or ideas...??

Ballykisteen is a lovely course i played there saturday,
Newcastle west golf course is around 15 mins closer than abby and is a lovely course too, not the hardest place in the world but i like it alot. Bit pricy though, joining on fee at the moment is €1500 inc sub for the year and around €700 every year then. Not sure about distance membership
Id stay way from abby from what I've heard of the place, never played there but always heard it was fairly poor.
Dont know much about slievenamon or glengarrif
Another place is tipp town course, played there a few years ago and really enjoyed it. no idea of price again though.
Also charleville is another place worth a thought. Its a very plain course, just back and fourth alot without any real variety, Id recommend newcastle west before it. ballykisteen would be my preferred option if its viable.
Adare manor (cheap one not expensive one) is also not too far away again and isnt a bad course. nice old parkland. havn't played there in 2 years but thought it was pretty good when I did.
Maybe try picking up Kevin Markham's book 'hooked Amateurs guide to golf courses in ireland' Its about 20 euro and gives a good honest opinion on all the golf coirses I've mentioned and more I've forgotten. Well worth it anyway to read up on places you might be going with work or a society and just to find out about courses in Ireland.
    Hope I was some help.
If I can be of any more help post or pm and ill get back to you as soon as I can.

Charleville has one of the cheapest memberships around. They have a deal for under 28's join now for a fee of €500 and when you turn 28 pay full membership or something like that give them a call to confirm on 06381257. 27 holes so always get a game there. Fantastic greens and course is in the best condition I've seen it in years. Ideal for the rep between Limerick and Cork. Others in the area Mallow, Fermoy, & Mitchelstown.
