Anyone been and can give me a low down on the place. Heard mixed messages off two friends. My first holiday with my lady friend. We have to seriously watch the pennies as she is in college. Salou is the cheapest. I know its near Barcelona which is a massive massive plus for me as i love the city. I also know its near Port Adventura which is also a plus. Any info would be great, thanks

Was worst holiday ever for me and my family and we're all well travelled. Would not recommend it to anyone. And I've heard the same from others. I'm sure you'd find a better deal somewhere else.

My boyfriend and I went last summer - like you we were on a serious budget and we ended up having a great time!

The beach isn't the cleanest, but tbh we're not that fussy - we were just glad to get away for a week!We did a day trip to Barcelona which was great and went to Port Aventura twice - it's great! We also went on a jeep safari tyoe thing to an old village and after we went swimming in a resevoir which was great! We went to a waterpark as well which was pretty good - nothing special though.

Nightlife is a bit mental but we usually only went for a few drinks in the early evening and then went back to the hotel.

Word of warning though - I went there 3 years ago with 3 friends and two of us got robbed  - so if you go be very careful with your stuff.

salou is fine, you get what you pay for , the accomadtion IS basic unless you go for the 4* hotels, erm centre of Salou is pretty built up tbh, so if you're not looking for the you could try maybe staying in Cambrils or Cap salou.. Cambrils out of those to, as its a little nearer to the Centre of salou , Nice apts there would be the Pins Playa 1 or 2 apts , there on sale with budget travel. The cap salou nice on would be the festival village, but its soo so far out... there with falcon
centre of salou..Internacional II apt with budget are good, pretty basic tho..

erm it suits all people really just depends on where you stay

Cambrils is lovely. Yeah, try get a place there. MUCH nicer.

+1... would advise that over cap salou even..

only problem is a small tourist train runs at the back of most apts, only one you will get on a budget that is anyways nice that doesnt have the train at the back, is the Pins Playa apts with budget travel

We stayed in Cap Salou and if you like your beaches its lovely.
Nice little coves with plenty of facilities on the beach and very few foreigners.
Also buses for Barcelona are very convenient.

Village is nice in the evening and is very different vibe to the mayhem of Salou itself.

    Depends what's important to you.

If you to visit Tarragona beware the pickpockets in the bus station - very blatant. I've never seen anything like it.

I have heard about this alright. Thanks for letting me know

Thanks for the help everyone. The cheapest appartments i can get is the Salou Suites Apartment. Its a three star but im not expecting the most from it

I've been a couple of times with the missus. We both enjoyed it

If you like rollercoaster type days out, then you'll have a great time in Port Aventura. Barcelona is an hour away and there are both guided tours, and general buses travelling regularly.

First time we went the weather became overcast one afternoon so we jumped on a tour bus to barcelona. For about €20 we got a tour of the nou camp, about 3 hours on our own in Barcelona city centre and then a trip up to Montjuic for the fountains.

If you're into football, there are several bus+ticket deals for Barcelona home games (if you travel in September).

We didn't find the nightlife crazy but there are plenty of places to eat and drink, and like all resorts the quality varies wildly. We found the further you walk towards Cambrils, the nicer the restaurants.

If you're not into tourist resorts/beach holidays then its not going to be for you.

Accomodation both times was basic enough, but clean and safe and that’s all we wanted.

For 30 quid more im getting the International II. It involves flying a week later but that does not bother me. On Trip advisor, International II ranked 35th out of 132 hotels in Salou, which is respectable. The Salou Suites came 80th!!! Think its worth waiting the extra week and paying the little bit more for the International II

Thanks for all that mate. Travelling in August so no football for me. I would kill to get a chance to see Barca playing. Been to the city twice before and they were playing away both times. As long as my accomodation is safe and clean, ill be happy:D

Also is it best to buy Port Aventura tickets while out there?? Would like a two day ticket

Been to Salou 3 times (International II each time) and would recommend it. The hotel is just a few minutes walk from the main streets but far enough so that you don't have the noise keeping you awake all hours. Plenty of good shopping and markets although our Asian friends trying to drag you in to buy fake footie gear can be a nuisance.
Portaventura is excellent (Run by Universal Studios) and has a cool water park next door , think its Costa Cariba or something.
We also did the Nou Camp tour, very impressive!!

overall, nice affordable holiday, flight only 2 Hrs, weather almost guaranteed.

Edit: On the ticket, I think you can get a 2 day pass for Port Adventura that allows you a day in the water park too.

Met a freind last week who was just back from Salou, she said its great place for kids!!! but she would never go there on a holiday with her partner, not the palce to go.
I have read a lot of reviews on the net about accommadation there, lots a bad reviews, noisey streets apts just ok....
keep looking on net, there are lots of last minute bagains to be got. prices usually fall in the last week so if you are flexible wait.

Sunway, Budget, ebookers, etc Majorca, Gran Canary & Portagul nice spots, cost del sol too!:)
