Swine Flu worry in Ayia Napa

Me and friends were planning on getting a late deal to Ayia Napa on August 8th (we were there earlier this summer). However I am hearing there has been a lot of Swine Flu cases reported recently and some apartments may have been in lock down. Others have been taking into hospital and kept there for their whole holiday. Anybody else hear this and is it something we should worry about before we book for sure.

We were thinking we could also go to Tennerife but is the Swine Flu risks everywhere?

The risks are everywere but some airline companys have apparently put a plan in force ( face masks) .However if you arrive at any destination now in Europe with symtoms of swine flu , the authorities can keep you confined until confirmation . Then it's a matter of staying put were you are until you're giving the all clear .

If you try and plan your holiday around swine flu then you probably aren't going away this year.

Make sure you have holiday insurance and then at least you will get your money back if it goes wrong.

I know it is everywhere but I just don't wanna be sick on holiday whatever type of sickness and Ayia Napa seems to be higher risk than other places as I haven't heard off anybody I know back home from people who have been away that there was swineflu going around apart from people coming back from Napa. not sure what to do. Only going for a week so maybe if I do pick it up the best case scenario is it doesn't come up on me til I get home, although then I am potentially passing it to me family (and mother has diabetes. Really don't know what to think

297 confirmed cases according to the map on the BBC site. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8083179.stm

I would hazard a guess and say a lot of these are people from Britain who have picked it up in the UK.

Only you can make the decision.

yeah it is only a population of 3000 over there or something so it is defo all just tourists bringing it in, from the UK I guess as we haven't been hit too bad yet. More cases in Cyprus than there is in Ireland like!

Just going to have to hope for the best, I am in good health anyway so should pass through me ok if I do get it anyway but me mate has bad kidneys he takes medication for (although he is one of the ones who doesn't give a damn about the Swine Flu) and also me mother has diabetes so wouldn't like to bring it back!

it now looks like the island will be closed because of the increase of cases of swine flu there. the local authorities are worried about the increase in tourists to the island and the effect of them travelling home with the flu and not aware of it as the symtoms take up to a week to show. if this happens then the flu could be spread a lot faster and cause a pandemic of the flu in the UK and Ireland as most of the tourists heading to the area will be from these countries.

It's too late for the UK methinks.
