What Aerial(s) should I use in south Wexford to get 4 Irish and basic UK channels? BBC1,2 CH4 UTV

House is right on coast about 100m above sea level. Am thinking roof mounted as already have a pole on gable end.
What else do I need in terms of amplifiers signal combiners etc.

Which Irish Transmitters should I be trying for for Analogue and Irish DTT?

    Seaview?
A high gain group A Presely for the UK channels -where exactly are you?
It's going fully digital in september.
If you are on that height with an unobstructed view out to sea [hard to tell what direction but towards the pembrokeshire coast generally] you are in business for digital from there-though for a new set up I'd wait untill september to be sure untill others in the area can confirm how stable the signal is.
It's being increased by a factor of 15 in september but is fairly useable already in areas with good reception [thats the big variable].
Mt Leinster VHF for RTE one and Two and a group A UHF for TV3 and TG4 Mt Leinster.

Combiners and a masthead amp and power supply unit.

    Thanks BlackBriar,

Very useful info. Sea view alright ;-)
Near Baginbun just a bit east of the Hookhead penisula.

I found the co.ords. for Presely and it looks like clear line of sight and about 95 miles on Google earth.

About 30 miles to Mount Leinster.

So if i understand you right, I'd need 1x UHF areial point to Presely to get british DTT, 1x UHF pointed to Mount Leinster to get TV3 and TG4 and 1 VHF also pointed at M Leinster to get RTE 1 & 2.

In terms of specific aerials, mastheap amps, combiners etc, can you recommend and makes and models as I don't know where to even start. Being right beside the sea rust is a major consideration.

I assume I'll also need a STB for the UK channels and would want one that can also do MPEG4 and MHEG5 to be future proofed for Irish DTT. Any idea what model I should be looking at here?

Lastly will the UHF pointed at mount Leinster also do for DTT when it comes?
I might just wait it out a few months and do it all together!

Thanks again for the reply, most helpful.

You can get your British channels from either Pressli in Wales or Dunmore East {there is a licenced deflector working down there} or even better get a Freesat/Free to air for your British channels. You will need a VHF and i would say a wideband UHF for mt Leinster for the Irish Channels. I can PM you Details for Local Installers down around your area.

The Deflector licence in theory expires this year.

Dish & satboxes, even if you want 16 of them is cheaper than big aerials etc for Freeview.

    Thanks lads.

Watty, I was starting to come to the conclusion that a a dish would be the most reliable, simplist and best quality picture, also probably cheapest. Perhaps with a single UHF pointing to Mt Leinster whenever Irish DTT is launched, maybe even a combi DTT\Sat STB.

The only reservation I have about a dish is rust. Neighbours had a dish that rusted through in no time. We are talking getting (light) salt spray blow on the dish regularly in this location.

Any recommendations on a dish make/model, LNB and brackets etc to avoid rust?

I use this type of dish a lot around the north coast of Wexford very reliable

There are several channels on Freeview that are free and worth having that are not free on satellite, like Dave, Virgin1, five, Yesterday, Sky3 and GOLD.

If I had the choice between Freeview and FTA satellite I would opt for Freeview, even if the setup cost was a bit more.

GOLD is not free on Freeview. FIVE is free on Satellite.

Sorry, yes GOLD is not free. Five isn't either on satellite, as a Sky FTV card is needed. Getting a FTV card in the Republic is technically not possible and more complicated than ever now that the white cards are being issued.

    Five is FTA on satellite. 10773 H, 22000 - 5/6

That's cool. Something I didn't know. Is there an EPG with that or are they hiding? Can they be picked up (with EPG) on an old Sky box?

Also, are Five US and Five Life gone FTA?

No. to all questions. Only via Other Channels.
Only on EPG on a FTV, UK sub or cancelled UK card.

    Five works on non-Sky Digiboxes.

Will Five work FTA via Other Channels?

Also is Channel4+1 FTA? It is on Freeview but I don't think it is on satellite.

I've had very good freeview from presely since re doing the twin aerials a few weeks ago.
Only once for about 2 hours on a wet day did I lose some of the channels and not on any of the other wet days-And bear in mind this is a wet summer.
And this is before the power increase coming next month and in september.

    It's been 99.9% reliable.
Signal strength today for instance is 70% and 100% quality. It generally varies between 60 and 80% strength but sometimes hovers as low as 48 to 55% but at that level theres no picture break up at all.
The signal delivers a reliable perfect quality picture at above 40% signal and power and signal quality.

Dave,Skynews and E4+1 are not possible due to Mt Leinster but you have Dave+1 and E4

What I like about freeview versus freesat is the simplicity of just plugging in an mpeg4 compliant tv to any of the aerial points around the house and have all the channels on the tv that you can flick through via the tv remote in the same way as up to now it's been possible on analogue.

Only Multiswitch distribution network with Quattros feeding it is close to that. Next best thing in Limerick (too far for freeview).

It will be very interesting to see how Presely shapes up post DSO in Ireland with its new 20kW ERP vs 1.6KW today. Certainly the new high power Huntshaw Cross post DSO, also 20kW ERP, is being received very well in Milford Haven and Swansea outside the North Devon main service area.

What's the chance of receiving the UK digital channels when it's increased in Waterford City?
