    Hi,

We would like a few opinions on should we travel to England for a 10 day holiday next week.

I am 14 weeks pregnant, and we have two kids, 5 and 2.
Its all booked, and we will lose the €1750 if we don't go.

We had also planned on going to a show in the Manchester Arena, and have ruled this out due to the crowds etc, just undecided on what to do about the rest???

    Thanks for any advice...

This is a tough one, I am a bit worried about going on hols myself in August as my hubby is on immune suppressants and I am worried about him picking up the flu. My attitude though is that it's going to be very prevelent in Ireland too in the next couple of months and that unless you lock yourself away in a bubble, you will be exposed to it. I know it's a much more difficult decision when there is a baby involved. I think the consensus from doctors at the moment is just to take the normal precautions like washing your hands and avoiding anyone who looks like they might be sick!

Do you have travel insurance? Could you get a doctor to certify you as unable to travel? You could at least get your money back that way. It's a tough call to make, if it where me, I think I would go. But go with your gut and do what you feel is best. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

I think being pregnant the usual advise that we here ship out to members telling them that "Shure you're going to get it anyway" kind of goes out the window.

In saying that, the advise from the UK HealthBoard regarding pregnant women is the following :

Bearing these risks in mind, at present, mothers-to-be are not advised to curtail normal activities such as going to work, travelling on public transport, attending events and family gatherings.

They are advised to take the following steps to reduce their risk of infection and complications:

    * observe good hand hygiene (frequent use of soap and water or sanitizer)

    * wherever possible, avoid contact with someone who is known or suspected to have swine flu

    * if they have flu-like symptoms, to make early contact with their General Practitioner who may advise treatment with antiviral drugs
