I haven't flown ryanair in quite a while , and I just printed out the boadring passes , but I'm wondering , do I have to cut along the dotted line which seperates my copy from the airports copy (boarding fate personnel) , or do they cut this off themselves at the airport (incurring a €10 scissor charge no doubt :D)

They tear it off at the gate....

No, just bring the printed page. They'll tear off and keep the bit they want when you board.

Dont cut it until about to board or let them do it. Has to be intact for security.

You mean it's all dependent on whether on tear fully across the dotted line or partially.

It doesn't make any difference what you do but have both bits with you.

Last time I checked in online I didn't cut the bottom part off. I was boarding at Beauvais and I handed the boarding pass to the girl at the gate, she gave me a complete filthy and then proceeded to announce at the top of her voice "Will all passengers make sure they have torn off the bottom of their boarding pass???!!!!"

    Morto...

What a clown, what was she going to do, refuse boarding to those who didnt cut the bottom bit off?

    :D

I usuually fold it over a few times on the dotted line and run my thumbnail over it, and also just tear a little bit at each end, so it's easy for them to tear off. Never had any problems.

Nope, just charge the €5 tearing-off fee (you did read the T+Cs, right?)

They just want people to tear the bottom off *at the gate* to save them the hassle of doing it themselves. It's all part of the Ryanair ethos of offloading as much as they can onto the public instead of paying their staff to do it. I'm sure someone has done a time and motion job and said that it takes an extra 0.5s per page to line up, tear, retain half, hand back half than to just hand back half and retain half. At 120(ish) per plane that's an extra minute of time wasted. Given that their turn arounds can be in the order of 20m in total sometimes this is a significant amount of time, even if it doesn't sound like it to you or me.

On a seperate note (although it might sound trivial) if I was a gate agent and I now had to tear all these documents over and over and over . . . I would be thinking of repetitive strain issues

I can imagine some security guard at the Xray area getting in a knot if you presented two parts of a one page document.

Not sure if this needs a new thread or not, but I'll tag it on here to avoid clutter!

I printed off my boarding passes and they've not printed properly - no bar codes and missing bits of information. I tried printing it a good few times from both IE and Firefox and no joy :( Other things print fine tho.

Any suggestions on how to get around this or should I bring some KY jelly to the airport and bend over at the check-in cos if i can get it sorted, I'm sure ryanair will fleece me?

    Thanks in advance,

Hey Rex, I've printed mine off before and it was tiny - couldnt fix it, think I copied and pasted it in to a fresh document as a picture and then stretched it..not sure if that helps!

Thanks for the reply Cruisy. Had a go at that - pasted it into a word document and it hasn't come out better - it does have the bar codes (they're a bit distorted tho) which is a step closer. Can't get the pictures of the boarding passes into MS paint or anything like that - fairly sure they'd print ok from there but it's not happening!

I've resigned myself to the fact there's a decent chance I'll be doing more than my bit to help ryanair thru these tough times!
