Mousse/gel/wax...I don't know

    Hey,
I'm not sure if guys are allowed to post stuff here, but I'll give it a shot (sort of a last resort thing:))

Anyway, I've got VERY straight hair (so straight it can't part or do anything on it's own, it just sits there!) & I've always wanted to shape it a bit & whatnot, nothing major, just that usual messed up student look you see everyday.

I've used gel for as long as I can remember, but I've recently found out that's not the best thing to be using . I hear mousse is the way to go, but I've also heard wax isn't too bad either...to be honest I haven't a clue!
I just hate the dry/hard effect that gel leaves, not nice :(

I'd love to hear any info that anyone has:)

    Thanks a lot!

P.S. where can I get male hair products, a part from in boots/tesco etc...yeah, I know, I'm no expert!!!

Maybe products aren't what you are looking for, it could be the style that needs to be changed?
If your hair is very straight it sounds like you need some layers to make it more choppy and messy.
    Products alone won't do that.

TIGI do a product range called Bed Head. Hook Up Moose wax is one of them.
They also have a range called Rockaholic. Punk out Molding Wax.

I think a trip to a hairdresser first would be best. Explain what you want to them. They may have to layer your hair to get the kind of choppy look.

Opps, I should of explained that first, I already have layers :pac:
Thanks for the product tips anyway :)

I use clay to get a messed-up look without the shine you get from most products. V05 do a good clay and the boots own-brand one is great (needs a good bit of warming up in the hand though!).

Lee Stafford have 2 ranges which could work for you. One is As Ruff as you like, and the other is Messed Up.

sorry ill add more....the likes of Vo5 would have a few shelves of products so you would find them among them products same with the likes of garnier etc...
as for the bed head range all i know of is hairdressers specialising in that. you should try petermarks/chambers (the bigger hairdressers) usually have a pile of 'product' and are only too happy to sell it..at inflated prices..so maybe go in there, get advise then head to try and find it cheaper in the chemist/boots/superdrug.

Cursed with super straight hair too, working a tiny bit of mousse into my hair when it's damp always gives it a few waves and definition. If my hair is freshly washed but looking flat, I spray a bit of dry shampoo into the roots, leave it for a few mins, then toussle it out with my finger tips, gives little waves/volume from the roots so it looks better over all.

Not sure how long your hair is, but after washing my hair I often tie it up in about 10 places around my head and leave it dry like that, then throw bit of hairspray on, gives volume and body.

Ignore ''men's products'' too, and check out Boots, their big brand name hair stuff usually comes in small holiday sizes around 3-4 euro a product so you can try a few types cheaper.

Also there's plenty of shampoos you can use to give your hair body, I like Tressemme's orange volume one, stops my hair being poker straight. And even though it's not manly :P blow-drying your hair upside down with little bit of mousse worked in (tousseling it with your fingers as you go) or spraying little bit of hairspray on after always works :)
