    Hi,

Apologies if this has been done to death here, this is my first time using this site.

I recently added an extension and as far as I can tell the ariel socket is wired into the attic and left at that. I have a Sky+ box in living room and my original Sky box is in the garage. Can I get the old box connected up in the new room without the need for a second dish? The idea is to be able to view different programmes than those in living room if possible.

If the answer is blindingly obvious, apologies. Thanks for any insight.

You'll need a multiroom subscription from Sky. They'll probably need to send an engineer to upgrade your LNB as your already on Sky+
You'll also need a phone socket in the new room.

Other options would be to share the signal using one of the many ways available. But like you mentioned it's limited to the channel your watching.

You need to check your LNB , if you have a quad or better then all you need to do to get the FTA channels is connect a cable from one of the free lnb ports to your box.

This will give free channels only , if you want your full sub you'll have to pay sky a multiroom sub for that, in which case your better off letting sky do the work.

    Thanks.

Again, apologies for my ignorance but what do LNB and INB stand for? What's a Quad? I know I'm going to have to get someone in to do the job either way but I was wondering if I could avoid getting a multiroom subscription. I'd prefer the Free to Air option as I don't feel I need another full Sky service (such as it is!).

you probably have one already (has 4 connections on it . for sky+ you will be using 2.

all you will need is some coax cable to do the job.

Thanks guys. As far as I can read it, I should be able to get someone in to hook up a FTA set up easily enough. That's what I was hoping for.

Thanks for the advice. Great site this.

As you have already sky plus installed, you will no doubt have a quad Lnb fitted. This means there are two spare slots left, which can be used to connect two standard sky boxes or equivalent fta satellite boxes.

You simply need to get a coax ran from the dish to the cable from your extension in your attic and join the two. You can then use your old sky box to receive the FTA channels. You havent said if you watch tv anywhere elese such as your bedroom etc, so if not why not get another cable ran and keep an eye out for a second box that you could add at a further date..

you can just bring a wire from your dish to wherever and connect your old box, this is how to receive free to air channels.

    Hi again,

Don't know if anyone checks back on these threads but here goes anyway.

Got a guy in to connect the old box up. When he left I had the basic English channels. 3 hours later I had a message saying 'No satellite signal received'. He had said that the box might be faulty. It went straight from my living room, where it had been working perfectly, to garage for a year or so, and back in today.

    Have I been stiffed?

Disconnect your sky plus box and bring it into the newly wired room, put the cable for the satellite in the tuner marked RF1 on the back of the skyplus box. Boot it up and if it says no satellite signal then you know theres a problem so contact whomever done the job for you.

If it works then reconnect your old box, sometimes simply resetting them can fix then, as its an old box it mite need a software update verify the signal is working first by doing the above and if it is...connect back up the old box whilst holding the backup button and then put in the power connector whilst still holding the backup button...after about 30seconds it will say on screen updating software...it should take a few mins to complete...

    Thanks,

Friend has a sky box they're no longer using so I'll try that. Presumably it'll do just as well as a means of testing it out.
