I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 and the sound has just gone like a cd jumping and starting again, does anyone know what it could be?

More information would be useful. When is it doing that?

    Simplistic, most-of-the-time-right answers:
If it's doing it when you're playing a CD or DVD, then you've probably got a hardware or driver issue.

If it's doing it when you turn the machine on or when you're playing an mp3 file or other file on your hard disc, start by defragging your hard drive, post back if you do that and it doesn't fix the problem.
