say the worst comes to the worst and i fail my repeat exams, what then?

do i repeat the whole year doing just the one class i failed?
will it still cost the full fees and are there any extra charges?
does it have any affect on grant?

i know its a lot of questions, but any help would be appreciated

    1) Yes you repeat the whole year again just doing the module you failed

    2) As far as i know you just pay for the module you failed. You can choose to repeat with attending classes (which costs more) or you can just sit the exam at the end of the semster. Speak to your lecturer about it. Some let you sit through the classes without the additional payment. Its not as though they check or even know whos in the class in the first place. ITs not too expensive maybe 200-300euro. Im sure the prices are listed somewhere on teh dcu site

    3) No. you get the grant for 4 years. Just dont apply to have it renewed this year. Renew it when you're back full term. Consult your local county council though just to be sure.

Hopefully you wont need to do any of the above. Good luck with the repeats

Well it will affect the grant. You won't receive it for any year that you are repeating....once you pass your repeated year it will continue as normal.

This will be the case if you decide to drop out of the course and do another one. If, for example, you are a first year and have received a full year of the grant. Any new undergrad course you start (i.e. starting in first year) you will not receive the first year of the grant payment but it will then continue in the 2nd year etc...

You "might" have to pay for the module so that you can
get the marks from any continuous assessment in that
    module.

Again, talking to your lecturer would sort that out.

For the sake of your own self, you should probably just give up.

To the OP, do yourself a favour and ignore fuhrer and his completely defeatist advice. Only you can decide wheter or not to continue on into a repeat year if it comes to that.

doylema3, your best bet is to the contact either your lecturer or the registry regarding the possible consequences of failing the repeats. At least that way you'll know all of your options going into them.

Thread cleaned up and Fuhrer infracted for personal insults.

If you fail repeats and want to continue the course you can:

Yes you repeat the year with just the one module.

No the fees (€6,000 etc) only applies for CONTINUING years study, so since you'd be in limbo in terms of years it's not affected.

You can pay for just he repeat the exam - €400 (ish)
or to do the exam and the lectures.

No idea bout the grant sorry.

That was me last year. Not a fun time! but passed in the end. Good luck

True. I paid just for the exam and intended on attending the odd lecture 1/2 times a week when I was free. But I ended up working for most of the year and only went to the first couple weeks of lectures. So I would have been a total waste of €300. I would only go for option if you are positive you'll go.
I asked the lecturer if he'd mind. He said he couldn't say yes to that, but that no-one would notice *wink-wink, nudge-nudge* - i.e. he could say that was ok officially but that he wouldn't mind.

Thanks for everyone help and suggestions. i was about to do a years Intra but due to the recession we're being put straight to the final year and studying is going well so hopefully repeating wont be an factor. my class this year is like 200 people and the lectures NEVER take the role. next year will be the same so I reckon they wouldn't even notice if repeated and only pay for exams

As for the grant, and this totally hypothetical, but my grant now is with the City of Dublin VEC as i came in on an add on to a PLC course. What if i apply for another grant from the Dublin City Council, if the CDVEC turn me down? is that illegal?

I'm still confused about the procedure for what happens when I fail repeat exams is. Say I fail 2 exams in my repeats this week, and I want to repeat them next year doing only the exams. This will cost me €800 or €400?

Also do I do this alongside my next (final) years modules - say I have 10 modules in next year - I'd be doing 12 exams in total? Or do I not progress to my final year and I do the two exams only and wait until the next year to do my final year?

not sure on the exact amounts, but it is something like €400 without taking the actual class again, though its better off to pay the extra

almost certain that you cannot advance until you've passed the year, so if you fail, its a whole year for that 1 (or 2, 3 etc) exam

no, its a standard fee €400 for any amount of exams.

and you would just be doing the 2 exams for the year. you can't do any of next years until you pass the previous years exams

It seems most matters have been cleaned up but just one more question, If it was only one exam that I had to repeat , Is there any chance the college would let me do it along with the other modules , hence Advance to second year, still get the grant. everything normal except one extra module? It seems logical but just wondering does this happen.
