    Hi all

was wondering if some of the techies here could recommend a wireless router to me-i live in the midlands and get broadband from a crowd called LASTMILE wirelessly. they tell me that "any router that has a WAN port and that is PPPoE enabled " (:confused:whatever all that means)will do the job for me. Not looking for anything too elaborate-just to connect up a PC in the young lads room is the idea and being able to remove the reciever/adaptor would give 'mammy' some control on access etc. All advice appreciated

Basically there are two broad types of wireless 'router' which are available.

The type which you do not want :) combines a wireless router with a dsl modem and is for people who get their bb over a phone line - it is sometimes referred to as a 'gateway'.

What you want is a router without a modem as you will be using the one supplied by your isp. These ones are used in situations like yours where the modem is supplied by the isp more often than not by a cable isp like UPC so it is commonly known as a cable router.

The linksys wrt 54gl would be an example which is often recommended on here.

If you have a printer in the house, and would like to be able to print from any computer, then something like the D-Link 714+ which has a printer port might be useful. I have it installed, though I changed the printer to USB at some stage. Having the printer connected to the D-link means that any computer that is also connected to it can recognise the printer. You might have to 'instal' the printer - can't remember its so long ago. Remember to set a WEP or WPA security so the neighbours aren't using your BB allowance to view movies.;) Lots of FAQ on that, on this site.:D
