Slow net this weekend? Anyone else?

I've been having major speed issues with the internet this weekend. Most of the time pages take an age to load, anyone else having trouble this weekend?

I'm on Magnet 10Mb in Cork.

Speedtests say i'm getting pretty much that... but still it can take a minute or two for a simple page to load. Sometimes it's still lightning...

Anyone else having this problem? Is it another attack on the networks or is it possibly a virus on my machine?

Mine was slow earlier around dinner time but it seems to be back on track now.

Are you using Open DNS servers as they seem to be good , I am.

Depends, if you are using a router go into its setup on the WAN connection and change the DNS servers to:

    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220

Or if not change your local area connection DNS to these and that will work too.

    Hi All,

Very slow. I have magnet too with enterntainment platinum 24.

I have trouble to use Skype already since weeks, but this weekend is the showstopper! Slower than a snail!!!

I have run the tracert command on windows vista during a skype call.
The stat suggests that the server d-cus-dsl1.magnet.ie [87.198.79.1] has a problem!

Anyone who is a technician or a specialist or a representative to make pressure to find a solution? Thanks for any suggestions.

    Marlon.

marlon77, ignore hop 8. The tracert command pings each TCP/IP device on the way to your website. Some routers and machines are going to be more optimised for dealing with direct requests than others.

I'm not an expert in this, but look at the stats. Your ping times are good after the 300ms pings, even though they go through the "slow router". Do you see that the rest of the ping times are higher than the one preceeding it?
E.g the magnet.ie ones are lower than the london ping times, which are lower than the T-com computers.

The final pings to Germany, I assume, are 50ms or less. Pretty acceptable. There's possibly some issues with the part between London and Germany, which you also showed in red. Perhaps Magnet can help you out with that? They have a forum here on boards: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1207

That other forum has a thread about a similar problem to mine and they also suggest changing the router DNS... but I can't see my router on the network. I remember being told before that Magnet don't let you?

Does anyone need help on these issues?

Hi Rory, good to see some pro-active customer relations!

My net seems fine again at the moment, but I never found out what happened over the weekend... it was rediculously slow loading pages, but still at full line speed according to speedtests.

If you could find out if it was a Magnet problem and what has been done to prevent a repeat I'd be grateful.

Just talked to the guys in technical support and they can confirm that there was a brief DNS server issue which may have affected a small number of users for a number of hours. The issue has since been resolved so if anyone has any further issues please contact me direct.
