    How are people ment to know what form you are filling in ?

    What do you want to do ?
    Register a limited company ? as your title states
    or register a business name ? as your post states

    doesn't matter about being new to the business stuff, this is just basic admin skills

    I think I want to register a Single Member Company and then register a Name for it.
    I think thats where I was going wrong. Didnt realise the name registration and the company body were different entities to be registered seperatly.

    If you want to register a limited company,I would recommend you use the online services of someone like http://www.RegisterACompany.ie-I have no affilliation with this company, there are many others.

    The paperwork is complicated and if you don't know what you are doing, you can create a big mess for yourself. Be very sure you know what having a limited company entails, before you commit to one.

    Registration as a sole trader is easier and also easier to cease. I strongly suggest you get professional advice before doing anything though. Feel fee to PM if you need more info.

    They're not. Unless your company name and trading name are going to be different. Seriously sounds like you're not really sure what you want to do. I would suggest contacting a professional as mentioned above and NOT use something like www.registeracompany.ie as they will just auto generate the forms for you. AFAIK they won't talk you through your options re sole trader / business name/ partnership/ Ltd Co

    Could you please take a look at the CRO online busisness registration page and help me register a limited company using an existing company number?

    https://www.core.ie/

    core.ie > File a Form > Registration of Business Name > Body corporate > Body corporate > *Company number*

    How can I enter it before ive registered for it?

    You cannot register a limited company through CORE
    using an existing company number?
    A company cannot have more than 1 company number
    core.ie > File a Form > Registration of Business Name > Body corporate > Body corporate > *Company number*

    This relates to you registering a trading name for a limited company. So if your company is called ABC Limited with a company number of 123456, but you want to also trade under a name ABC Electrical, then

    ABC Electrical = Business name you want to register
    ABC Limited = Body Corporate
    123456 = Company Number

    Let me know if you need any more help understanding this.

    Yeh the company number thing was the part that was stopping the whole registration. Thanks for your help!

    So in order to Incorporate a Single Member Company I need to prepare:
    an A1 form
    a Memorandum of association
    and Articles of association

    then its good to go?

    Is there any online way of doing this on the CRO website to get a discount?

    I don't want to seem condescending, but it worries me that you don't quite seem to understand what you're getting yourself into by registering a limited company. The legally-binding obligations of being a company director are not to be taken lightly.

    I'd strongly urge you to seek professional advice before going down this route.

    To the ordinary individual an enlightened person appears to be an idiot - unless you know what he knows!

    ;)

    Im fairly sure that I want to set up a Limited company.

    +1

    +1000% Would recommend reading Duties & Responsibilities of Company Directors which can be downloaded from the CRO website

    Again, as mentioned earlier, you cannot register a limited company online with CRO. You're better off using an agent to register your company. PM me if you want a recommendation.

    Also, beware of using someone elses memorandum & articles as the new Companies (Amendment) Bill 2009 was signed in by the president a couple of weeks ago, so an older set will more than likely be out of date.
