Hi. I'm considering getting Invisalign braces fitted. I've looked around the boards for related articles, and although their are a few they are quite old threads - alot dating back over a year.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I could get the best value for my money for these braces in these recessionary times!! I've heard they can cost up to E5,500 but that number seems to be pre-economic crash! I would have to be getting a partical loan to fund them so I really do need to get value for money, but I don't want some hack butchering my teeth! Does anyone know of anywhere in the city that is now supplying the braces for cheaper? Also I'd be interested in hearing any experiences you may have had with them yourselves...results! How long the treatment takes etc!

Any information would be of help! Thanks!

Do you need a lot of orthodontic work, or do you just want to improve the aesthetics of your teeth?. Invisalign isnt for major orthodontic treatment, so obviously find out if its suitable for you. I know that all the so-called "dental spas" in Dublin haven't reduced their prices at all, so you should phone around. Make sure you go to a specialist orthodontist and not a regular dentist - check that the orthodontist is registered with the Orthodontic Society of Ireland. You'll get the best possible treatment that way.

Oh, as invisalign is for minor treatment, it usually takes about 6 months, maybe 8.

I have invisalign at the moment. I went to the Ashbourne Dental Centre and it was €3300 for 19 aligners on my upper teeth and 11 aligners on the bottom. About 2/3 through now and my teeth havn't moved as much as they should have so may need a few extra aligners at the end but these are included in the initial cost.

How long have you been wearing them? That seems quite cheap for both upper and lower teeth

I have them since January, the price included a 5% discount for paying everything upfront. It's a lot cheaper than most of the places in Dublin though.

I considered getting invisalign- had very minor work to be done - only on upper teeth. I had a chat to an orthodontist who said he has aboslutely no faith in them whatsoever but that he would supply them without charging any fees and without taking resposability for the results- just the actual cost for him to send the moulds/xrays etc off and get the aligners - he reckoned it would be €1000 - for the same service from Smiles I was told it would be more like €3000. Seems like a big chunk of profit for not alot of work tbh.

I'm new here so apologies in advance if I make a mistake in posting!

I very recently got Invisalign from Smiles on South Anne Street. The total cost was €4000 - 50% was payable up front and I'm paying the remainder over 12 months by monthly direct debits. The initial consultation was €95. My case was not too severe and the reason for getting treatment was purely aesthetic. I had train tracks when I was a teenager and one of my top teeth had moved about a bit pushing the front one out. The bottom teeth had also moved slightly but I wasn't worried about these. However it was basically the same price to get both the top and bottom done as it was for just the top. Treatment should be about 8 months for my case. I couldn't face having train tracks again in my twenties so felt this was the best option for me! The staff in Smiles have been great - really friendly and professional. Highly recommend them if you're thinking of going down this route. Let me know if you need any more info!

Go to a registered specialist orthodontist and discuss the options available to you. Dont go to one of these so-called "dental spas", such as the one mentioned in the previous comment unless they actually have a registered orthodontist working there - which I doubt....

you can just go onto the Orthodontic Society of Ireland website, and get the list of registered orthodontists on it. You could then phone the orthodontists on the list who are in your area, and get quotes from them.

Smiles has two different locations on South Anne Street. One is specifically for cosmetic dentistry such as whitening etc and the one across the road is Smiles Orthodontics which specifically deals with braces and Invisalign only. All the guys working there are registered orthodontists. €4,000 is a huge amount of money to me so of course I checked this out before I parted ways with my hard earned wages -especially as I had already had braces.

Ok - so is only one of the orthodontists working for Smiles registered with the Orthodontic Society of Ireland?. He is registered through his practice in Louth, so Im sure he is excellent. But the two others arent...

what difference does it make if they are orthodontists or not? If they are listed on the invisalign website as certified, surely that is enough?

There is a place in walkinstown that do free consultations but he is not an orthodontist. However he is a 'silver' cert on the invis. website

I was going to have my consultation with this guy, but you have cast doubt in my mind now!!! has anyone been here??

I have not been there but the "silver" only means that the dentist pays Invisalign a fee to be "silver". If they paid more it would be "gold" or "platinum".

Invisalign will work well for simple treatments but some people will need a small ammount of traintracks to get the best outcome, this is why you should go to an orthodontist. You will find it is not much dearer but you should get a better outcome.

    Hope this helps

Oh really?? what a scam haha! well, seen as its free i will keep my appointment and see what he says.

My only other option is to go with Smiles on grafton street, but the idea of city centre parking every 2 weeks is putting me off.

No its not enough, and of course it makes a difference if they are qualified orthodontists!

No you can go to one of the many orthodontists in the city center or near your home. Always beware of free consultations, The ammount of time needed to properly diagnose your case, the x-rays required for a diagnosis and treatment plan are well worth paying to have a good person doing the treatment.

Any orthodontist should be able to treat you so go to whoever is nearest. If you get Invisalign or Clear Step (a similar type of brace) you dont have to go in every 2 weeks, you are given the series of aligners and you change them yourself every 2 weeks. You only need to have the progress checked every 8 weeks or so so you only have to visit the orthodontist every 8 weeks.

    Hi the-lad,
Keep wearing that aligner for life or the teeth will move......I assume your dentist told you that too!
The Inman aligner only tips the teeth, possibly into a very unstable position, whereas a fixed brace will ensure correct angulation of the crown and root, with a better chance of overall stability.:)

@the-lad - Can you PM the dentist name and number to me please?!
