OPTION A a closed senate and the thousands of euros released spent on about 300 special needs assistants for 300 challenged Irish young children

    or

OPTION B an open senate which has - no actual function- in real terms - and 300 Irish special needs youngsters having a school day that is very difficult/miserable as their special needs assistant is not there owing to cutbacks

    ??

You could sell the TV rights and make even more money, but why stop there when you could set up an ultimate fighting special needs children fighting need.

no and 300 is a conservative estimate, it could be as many as 1000 as these are not primary school teachers but similar to a sensible big sister allowing the youngster as young as 5 participate in the classroom setting at the pace needed by them owing to the complex way nature can construct some vulnerable members of our society, :)

Can't we have an option C where all the money saved is spent on kittens and cake for all?

It'll fly better with the general public and is just as well thought out as the needlessly twee Option B. It'll also tug more heartstrings and is just as well grounded in fantasy.

I'd rather have the Senate and President actually serve a purpose, like they do in the US. It would mean that the Government wouldn't necessarily have complete control like they do at the moment. The Senate should be directly elected.

    Why isnt this a poll?
That would have made more sense then your OP.

option c , a reduction in teacher pay so as to bring them closer into line with thier european counterparts , were this to happen , thier would be no need to increase class sizes or reduce the number of special needs teachers

How about abolishing the presidency & all the ceremonies that goes with it. That will save about 500k-1m euros. We have a prime minister why do we need a president?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,582 ✭✭✭✭kowloon

I say axe the senate and the presidency, they're fcuk all use in the balance of power, the dail just do whatever they like by the looks of it.

We should have an elected senate, a meaningful presidency and a dail vastly reduced in size with politicians on pay more representative of their role in such a small nation.
There should also be strong anti-corruption and misrepresentation of the state legislation to keep the pri<ks in line and none of these tribunals they're so fond of pi55ing away the cash.

And every once in a while one of them should be assasinated, to give them a healthy fear of the populace they so regualrly fcuk over.

    /rant.

Would special needs schools not be a better use of resources and allow a better concentration of specialist teaching?

I vote we gather as an angry, disorganised mob and storm the Senate!

Not all parents want to send their child to a special school and wish for them to be in a mainstream classroom. If they live in rural areas it might be impossible to send their children there due to distance

True, but would the specialisation of such a facility not have its benefits? Not to mention the extra workload put on teachers who need to work with the special needs assistant while also handling the rest of the class.
What conditions require a special needs assistant? Who actually decides what children etc. need one?

    Which would you choose:

OPTION A: A tropical paradise, where your every desire and need is fulfilled. The food is always superb and the sun is always shining against an azure blue sky. Life is good.

OPTION B: An urban ****hole. Murder/Rape and poverty are the norm. Food is non-existant and the rain and cold wind blow hard and consistantly.

Now I've heard of leading... but this is ridiculous.
