Renewable energy options for Holiday Home

We are in the process of sorting out the plans for a 3 bedroom cottage style house in West Mayo. It will be unoccupied for much of the time and I was wondering is it possible to put in enough solar panels so that we could provide some background heat while we weren't there. Looking through the various threads it appears that a wind turbine is too expensive and we would be unlikely to get much return on the cost although it is in an excellent position to catch a lot of wind. Any advice would be appreciated.

under current building regulations you now HAVE TO incorporate some renewable energy sources into your dwelling....

    viable options are:
    1. heat pumps
    2. solar collectors
    3. wood pellet boilers
