O2 E270 Modem does nothing when plugged into one computer, but works fine in another

On one computer (Vista), this new O2 E270 modem does nothing, doesn't try and install the software that it should, etc, and isn't visible as a new drive, even through the lights on the modem come on.

I first thought that maybe it was broken, but when its plugged into another computer (xp), it immediately offers to install the software.

Is there a setting somewhere on Vista I should adjust, please, to get this working?

Is it detected in the Device Manager of Vista?

Pardon the stupid question, but where should it appear in the Device Manger? Network Adapters?

no It's not a Network adaptor. It's a Dailup Modem.

    It's under Modems.

USB modems with onboard drivers also appear as USB Mass Storage.

The Driver can be manually downloaded and installed (as Administrator) and the Modem may work even if never detected as a Mass Storage Device.

If your Windows is properly secured it won't auto-run. You'd have to find the extra "removable Drive" (see if it's in Disk administrator and give it a drive letter if it simply isn't in My Computer due to lack of drive letter) and manually run the installer.
