Have the broadband so when I got a call from their sales team a couple of weeks ago offering a 3 month trial of their phone service, I decided to give it a go. Anyway, cordless phone arrived the next day (surprised it was a normal landline phone rather than a voip phone). However no instructions on how to get it to work arrived and despite 3 mail have recieved no response from their customer support. Am minded to just cancel it, but wouldn't mind trying it first. Anyone know how to set it up? Thanks

When you originally got your broadband connection UPC would have sent you a router. That router is pre-provisioned for the voice service.

When you asked for the voice trial they just activated that provisioning, so all you have to do is connect the phone to the router.

If you examine the back of the router you'll see one or possibly two RJ-11 connections. Just plug it into the first one and away you go.

Put another way: the UPC router has a built-in ATA device that permits VOIP without any further equipment other than a regular phone.

Yep, that was what I assumed and it still isn't working even though I have been trying it in both RJ11 connections for days. It maybe a handset fault

Is it the following cable modem you have from UPC?

If so, are all seven LED lights on the front lit steadily (ie. not blinking continuously)?
If they are not, the phone service hasn't been correctly provisioned for you. If they are, then make sure you plug the phone into the rear of the cablemodem on Port 1 ONLY, Port 2 will not work. If no joy there, maybe try an existing handset in your house to rule out a faulty handset.
