Do you have a computer or PC already? And do you have a budget?

A very basic laptop will run Reason 4. If you start with this application you will learn an awful lot, it is a very deep program but easy to begin making beats and synth parts.

I did. You mentioned the Klaxons and all the rest. Ask yourself what they all have in common. (they are all bands) You also stated you played keyboards, didn't mention guitars at all. As far as I know most of those bands have guitars. Can you sing? Do you play drums?

And last of all you said you wanted to make music. There's no mention of recording it... I'd suggest you wrote a few songs first and worked with a few musicians before setting up the home studio that's all.

So what do you want to do get all the gear then start writing music?

You seem to have enough to start with already with garage band btw.

I see it every day, people who think if they throw enough money at something it's going to be good.

You do have enough there in Garageband to be going on with. I do know that pretty much the entire first Hadouken album was done in FL.

Haha I don't have the money to set up a home studio lol. I have Pro-Tools an M-Box and a macbook.
I play Guitar, bitta keys, Harmonica and drums. I also have alot of musician friends.
I'd like to just stick it on MySpace take it from there.

what more could you ask for?

i presume if you play synth you actually have a synth that most likely has a midi connection. so all you really need is some midi cables and a(few) softsynth(s)

You can get the older microkorg for around 400 new or cheaper second hand. Some of the bands that you mentioned use them. You can use it as a midi controller also. Ableton live is great for making loops that you can trigger live from your macbook and you can get a lighter version of it for sub 200.
