    Hey,

The gf's Fiesta(2000, 45k miles) gave up, overheated, coolant leaking, wont start now.

Can anyone recommend me a good indy mechanic in the Mullingar area? Not from the area myself...

Is the Ford garage here any good?

    Thanks,
    Cionád.

Got a mechanic to have a look at it. The engine was knackered, complete write-off. Shame.

Scrapped it in Mullingar and bought a 2001 SEAT Ibiza, which is a nicer car although its not quite as nippy. :)

Does this car require some sort of uber specialist mechanic? Surely any mechanic would do

Engine with 45k was a complete write off?

Yes the engine was completely destroyed after overheating. The mechanic said it could be fixed for ~1k euro or so, but you can buy them for less than that these days and it might not be 100% afterwards anyway.

No warning lights or sounds came on for the overheating so it was driven for a few miles before it cut out.

Did he give the reason why it died. I'm guessin the

dread "head gasket" is gone. Fear of every motorist.

Think ball-park getting a head done and replaced is about

€500 odd. Just an option. Hope your new motor is going well though.

Sorry I didnt see your orig post sooner. Head gasket went in my 98 fiesta at about 50k.(about 20 months ago). Coolant was leaking out unbeknownst to me. No warning lights for me either.
Some mechanics recommended new engine. Ford garage in mullingar wanted more than car was worth. Got it fixed by "indy" for 350.

My dealings with Colton Ford main dealers in mullingar would say dont go anywhere near them. I left my fiesta in with one problem,(revving high) and got it back with 2 more, (cutting out at all sorts of dangerous times and square inch hole in the exhaust). caused by mechanic moving spare wheel from boot to its rightful place under car as part of pre nct check.
They denied responsibility for the damage to the backbox and were incapable of fixing the cutting out problem after 2 attempts.

Don't these have a temp gauge ? I know that lots of Kas don't but I thought the 1.25 fiesta would have one.
