Education Discount Vs American prices

Hi, I have a similar comment. I am currently on holidays in the States. I went in to a MAc store today as I have been thiinking about buying a Mac notebook for sometime. I am a teacher and so would qualify for an educational discount at home. But the prices are so much better here in the us - the basic white notebook is $999+tax (8.75% in California) where as the exact same in Ireland is €949. Even with the discount in Ireland it is much cheaper in the US. I asked the guy in the shop and he said that there is no problem with technical support with mac in Ireland. I would consider purchasing the 3 year warranty anyways if that was possible.

I really would appreciate anyone's expertise on this!:)

I have split this off from the iPhone thread, as it didn't really fit in there.

I have also moved it to the Mac forum where you will get more expert advice on such matters.

Mac Laptops all have worldwide warranty.. You can buy AppleCare up until the 12 month warranty expires. Only thing about buying in the US is Euro symbol on the keyboard, and the power adapter. Good value at US prices.

Just pointing out that you can change the keyboard layout to an Irish one via system preferences. There won't be a Euro symbol physically printed on the key, but the computer will work as if there was.

Depending on how long you're there for you may also be able to order it with a British keyboard. Ask and see.

Do you have to have an american student card to avail of the Education Discount when youre buying a mac?

Do you also get the free iPod Touch as advertised?

What amount is the discount too?

    In the U.S.? Yes.

It's not really free. It's a rebate which you can claim afterwards for the value of the ipod minus tax/vat. You have to be a student to qualify.

I'm not sure what it is in the U.S.. Over here the regular student discount is about 7%. Or 10% for certain university students.
