Sellafield Meltdown?

I was told by a mate in the emergency services on east coast that they were called and put on alert when there was a near meltdown in sellafield in the last few weeks. hushed up since. anyone else hear anything similar?

^^^ Is that what you're referring to?

If so then no not a meltdown or near meltdown. As far as I know there are no reactors active at Sellafield now, so no possibility of a meltdown.

nope, this was in last few weeks. mate has a history of exaggerating a bit, but something happened for sure.

There were strikes a few weeks ago in Sellafield, some people were concerned that it would impact safety.

Maybe emergency services were put on a heightened state of alert, just as a precaution

of course it does but it is not a power plant and has no reactor and therefore cannot have a meltdown

there are nuclear plants nearer to ireland but hardly anyone ever mentions that or expresses concern

Yes, there's even one on the Isle of Anglesey (Wylfa) that's much closer (half the distance) to Dublin than Sellafield.

Because its Irish people your referring to. And we only moan about what we are told about. You dont expect the majority to think for themselves do you? Why should they, when Joe Duffy can do that

The greatest threat to the environment in Japan currently is the waste plutonium MOX rods stored in the upper section of Reactor 3.

Mox Plutonium is 2 million times more toxic than enriched uranium and also has a half life of thousands of years which could in turn make vast areas of Japan a nuclear wasteland.
