Basically Arma 2 is a toolbox game, what you install upon purchase isnt actually "the game" you will play moreso the base that the missions/gameplay modes/things you download work off.

This part is seriously complicated but makes sense if you play something and stick with it.

    ONLINE

When you go online there are 2 types of game modes (seriously more but for simples sake saying 2)

    PvP
= Player vs Player thats the general idea of the game mode, but there are tonnes of underlying style modes that use both AI and Humans

Inside this are CTI/CTF/WARFARE/BESERK/DM/TDM some fairly obvious some not. CTI is not for beginners but brilliant if you get into it.

    COOP
= Humans vs AI and Humans with AI vs AI

Most game modes online are this:

DOMINATION dominate the map, rank up and get better **** to kill AI with as you do. Ranking comes in the form of kills/time spent on the server both dictated by the mission maker and server admin.

EVOLUTION same idea but from a carrier base with the need for role selection the utmost priortiy ie dont pick pilot if you aint prepared to fly the helis and ferry people all over the map.

MISSIONS missions made by people for small amounts of players similiar to Ghost Recon style play but easy to get into.

The biggest problem online is that most good servers are locked to noobs and playing on the public servers ends out in a retardfest. its not fun being Team killed at base cos someone doesnt know how to respawn at the mobile. Server admins leaving some servers open only to gather a banlist, kinda sad but these people playing the game since OFP.

    So simple tips:
Walk to the flag when you spawn and an option to "teleport" to the mobile spawn appears.

If the mission maker has elected you can parajump to the next objective.

If you are teleporting to the Mobile respawn check your map 1st to see where they are otherwise you teleporting to where some dumbass parked it and walked. never use the Mobile as a taxi protect it at all costs.

Press T to see how the game mode works, press M for map, press J for tasks. K for compass O for watch.

Space Bar scanning some servers disable this but almost all have it on, pressing space gives you a view to see if someone is enemy or team. Also the responses like ROGER etc:

    / = chat
,. change the chat from global to vehicle to squad.

F to change weapons and most importantly firing mode, FULL is useless tbh i use SEMI , F also cycles tru all your weapons so if you have a Grenade and wondering how to throw it press F, same if you have a grenade launcher on a gun.

    Public servers:
    Kelly heroes
    IGI
    1PARA
    SuicideSquad
    Uk Exile server
    RIP

Join those servers and play the game as its meant to be played (which is dictated by the mission maker/server admin). Not as simple as most FPS which are drop in drop out so some people will be disallusioned by the game as they are not playing it right. Its a strange thing but trust me sticking with it and its GR/ RS/BF all rolled into an intelligent game.

    Nice one kdjac

Was wodering about the spacebar thing, if it's common for people to do, feels a bit cheaty to me, but helps alot with friendly fire.

Bug in the game if you pick up an enemy gun or get into their vehicle you get a minus score and appear RED to your team mates.

Found that out the hard way when i repaired a T90 and levelled the enemy out of it from behind, checked my score and i was minus a lot :D Enemy wouldnt fire on me either it was like god mode in a tank.

Having bought Arma CO just for Day-z a group of us decided to try some co-op scenarios this week. After a bit of fumbling around we got to grips with some of the basics (just spotted your guide so that will definitely help too ,thanks).

Last night we tried CTI mode and intially we didnt have a clue but after a few ah-ha moments I started to realise how cool this mode could be. It''s like BF3 but each player can spawn his own AI squadmates and give them orders (and it's fairly easy to do so).

It's great craic having your AT units blow up an enemy vehicle for you and then when you've captured a town you can build AI manned defenses to protect it while you head onto the next objective. (units, vehicles and defenses can only be bought in certain capture points I think)

The main thing that confused us was that even though we had two teams, sometimes my bots would kill my team-mate. Is this because he shot some of my bots or am I missing something else?

its well worth getting to grips with, at some points I can have 4-5 vehicles storming a town with a chopper told to circle around to provide overwatch. it can take a mind bending amount of keyboard operations selecting units and assigning orders, stances, awareness level etc but my god its so much fun when it works.

Dayz has only highlighted what a brilliant military simulator this is.

I have killed team mates by selecting them inadvertently whilst the gunner (in a tank or chopper) lets say, was in "fire" mode. make sure the unit is on cease fire, before you select one of your units to command. Another time I think the IA jsut got confused and killed another real player as hea was heading towards us. my guess is that a script fired off in the wrong order, the game is heavily script orientated. eg ,
the routine that told it what to do when it has a spotted unknown player.
;spot unknown player --> is he enemy ->open fire. I may be wrong

They also fixed that bug Dreamers, when entering the enemy vehicle. Saw it on the beta update changelog.

I call them AI trolls. Just like real-life human players every so often a team mate can just tk for no explicable reason. Only difference is these guys don't disconnect.
It's true that if your team mate is disobeying orders, or endangering squaddies, or downright firing on them that the AI may take action against him. Heck, some mods had hilarious results for this. (One server I played in respawned you continuously in Prison! And had an AI firesquad repeatedly kill you).
It being Arma though assume bug before hack before human error. :D
Also, it could just be a case of unintentional friendly fire. :)
