Running near Dingle

I'm heading to Dingle tomorrow (Saturday) but I won't arrive until after dark.

I need to do a 12 mile run first thing on Sunday morning.

Would the R559 towards Emlagh or the R559 towards Ventry be suitable and safe to run on or can anyone recommend a good route?

I'll be starting from the Commons of Milltown.

Any information or suggestions would be appreciated.

I found the road towards Ventry busy with traffic and its twisty nature and lack of a path was a problem. My personal preference when I was down in Dingle last time was to hit the hills, but 12 miles of hills might be a bit too much but you could vary it. I ran out and back on the R559 as this was straight for the most part and you could see / hear cars coming at you. I also went offroad and found trails which brought me up to Ballysitteragh. I ran down from the Connor pass one day too by trail - that was fun and fast.

Hope you get the weather for it.

One or two locals might be along in a minute, but I suggest (based on a 12-miler I did from near Milltown a little while ago)

    - Head south down the R559 and hang a right towards Ventry.
    - Get off the main road by taking the right up into the hills throgh Monaree and above Ventry
    - Continue to the T-junction, turn around and return the same way, dropping down to Ventry for refreshment at Paudie O Se's if necessary!
    - Hang the next left after Ventry up to Ballymoreagh, then right and right again
    - Left at Monaree and you're on the homeward stretch.

I remember it as a lovely, isolated run and well away from the cars that plague the coast road. Enjoy!

    Thanks guys

Because I won't have a chance to check out a route before I run it your info is a great help.

I had visions of ending up on a road full of tourists spending my time jumping into the ditch.
