is it not cheaper to buy it from apple in the US?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 469 ✭✭knuth

possibly, but these are available today to any one with transport.

All the above retailers had whites in stock, albeit 32gbs. There was no "mystic meg" customer service at all.

The unlock took me under an hour (downloaded 300mb ipsw) to complete.

Did they ask you any questions or for a northern address when they heard your accent?(I presume you're from the Republic?)

That's new development. They insisted on a UK chip and pin card in Victoria Square a few months ago....

    Thanks for the heads up

Was it a laser card? I know certain shops up there don't do laser.

Anymore info on this? Was up in Newry today but none around..only black 32gb and CPW didn't seem to keen on selling for southern export(accent gave it away I guess).

Will an o2 sim from the Republic work in an iphone from the North?.. If I need to send back in for repair I will do a full restore and send it in through o2 down here. Can someone check this who has bought it up North?

you cant buy iPhones in the US. you need a social security number and you need to pay deposits and sign up to A&T there and then iirc

I thought you could buy it without a contract from AT&T but costs between $600-$700.

You can now buy contract free, but locked to AT&T

SOUTHERN O2 WILL NOT WORK ON NI O2 IPHONE. You have to unlock it using redsnow / ultrasn0w / yellowsn0w.

Time is ticking, 3.0 is the firmware that can be currently unlocked!

But do you still need a social security number whiterebel?

Thanks for clearing that up. I understand that..and would be using it on Meteor. I asked the question just to see what the story would be with warranty.

Warranty would remain the same I presume, any Apple Store should be able to repair it in EU regardless of where you bought it from. I wouldn't be surprised if the NI ones come with longer warranty!!

Obviously in that case you'd have to bypass o2 and go directly to mactivate?
