Was wondering if anyone could give me some info on training groups in the Limerick area. I am a canadian starting at UL in Sept, distance guy (5,10s and cross) I like to think Im pretty serious about training, wouldn't say it translates to spectacular PR's but there ok. Milage is about 60-80 miles a week. Is my best bet going through the UL soc or one of the athletic clubs in the area or is there something else? Any imput is greatly appreciated.

    cheers

Show up on the UL track for the session at about 6.30 on Tuesday evenings.

Ask for Joe Chawke. Its a West Limerick AC session AFAIK but he would be a good person to talk to

Ur best bet is to get involved with UL when they start up, there are a few guys there that wud be perfect for you to train with.
But for the mean time, join a club in Limerick. There is a nice club near the cresent Doonen and then u have emerald and west limerick but out of the limerick clubs id say Doonen is the best. I lived up there last summer and trained with them and it looks like a nice set up

    my two cents...

For a start, Limerick is one of the best places to train in ireland-between the ul facilities, the shannon bank run, the cratloe hills, you can get some great sessions in.

I would definitely join the ul team. Some excellent mid/long distance guys and girls to train with and the opportunity to compete in intervarsity races as well.

In terms of clubs, djs mentioned dooneen, who are a fine club but wouldn't have very many long distance runners, mostly sprinters. Emerald are a juvenile club so you might look a bit out of place training with the kids! That leaves a few other clubs, go particular, west limerick and limerick ac. Apart from the excellent tuesday session at the ul track where a lot of the top runners and triathletes take part, there aren't very many organised and a lot of your training would be on your own.

All in all, i'd suggest the ul squad for you. Good sessions, good people to run with, some great races over the academic year.
