I'm getting a new laptop in the next few days and am wondering which browser would be the way to go. I've heard various people championning firefox, internet explorer, opera, and thought I'd ask the good aul boardsies for their opinions :P So what does everyone else use, and how do they find it?

    Anything but Internet Explorer.

I use Firefox, Chrome and Safari myself.

    +1 on not using IE.

i use Opera myself, and after a little configuration, its exactly what i want from a browser, though stock standard Opera works perfectly too.

I still use IE7, it works for me and I'm smart enough to avoid dodgy sites. Not using IE8 because they dropped a couple of features that I use.

firefox has some great addons for pretty much anything you need
    Youtube to MP3 converter
WOT - rates links for safety etc before you click on them
    and loads of others

+2 for staying away from IE

IE all the way. Pretty much every website displays perfectly and it's more stable than Firefox or the utter piece of **** that is Google Chrome.

    Opera is a lovely browser.

Firefox is the way to go

It uses more memory but it's more secure than IE

Used FF for a while nice to have all those extensions etc.

Main browser is still opera , currently using beta 10 with no issues, couldnt live without it's built in feeds reader.

Try going to http://www.lyngsat.com/europe.html in IE and then try Firefox. The table layout looks terrible under FF while under IE it looks much cleaner.

The average person couldn't give a damn about web standards, only those who actually code the pages. Same applies to open source, it's only useful if you're a programmer. Makes no difference to me since I can't understand the code anyway. The only websites I've seen that don't work in IE are ones where the developer is a Firefox worshipper - I've even seen some blogs block IE outright. Great way to support your cause.
