Seen an ad for these in Irish Runner. Anyone got/tried them. Apparently good for preventing shin splints. Or do ye think people look a bit mad wearing them?

You'll see a lot of people wearing them around the place. I've a few pairs myself, but they're expensive enough, something like €10 a pair. Some people can get by with basic cotton socks, but I find these socks a lot better. I can't wear the cotton socks, as my feet react don't react too well. But there are cheaper compression socks available then the 1000mile ones.

Compression socks. I started wearing them but only when my runs went over 30km. They, for me, act almost like an external fascia and reduce my likihood of injuries due to overuse.

Brand is important, as the gradient of compression is important. CEP are the ones I like.

You can get 1000 mile socks and 1000 mile compression socks too , i've used the compression ones on long runs and found that they help with recovery.

I have the 1000 Mile and Nike compression socks. The Nike ones are far better quality imo.

I usually wear them to bed after a hard run, helps big time with recovery.
Wake up the next day ready for another hard session:)

Got mine online but think that RunWays shop has them these days.

I wear them all the time, i have real bad problems with my calfs from training on the track and i nearly always wear them once a week.
They might be a bit expensive but they stop me from getting blisters and help my calf problem and there great for after a session to help keep the blood circulating. Id recommend them to anyone having calf problems

Paula Radcliffe swears by compression socks doesn't she? I'm glad this topic has come up, it's actually something I've been thinking about looking into for a while. Do they really help prevent shin splints?
Or do ye think people look a bit mad wearing them?

Yeah, but I wouldn't give a sheet if people thought I looked a bit mad, lets be honest I am a bit mad. :D

I think i might have been the first person in Ireland to buy into these and they are very popular.
Wore a pair in the adidas 5mile last year...
There is actually no difference between nike and 1000 mile except branding so for anyone to say there is a difference(its all in you head pal)

There is still no research to show they actually work.
I personally think they look terrible on anyone over 10stone.(me included)
Tri-athlete's seem to buy into ''gadgets'' and these are becoming more popular with them.
I saw James Thie wearing a pair of skins socks in the morton mile.
Good luck if you are willing to waer them in public but id give them
    the tumbs down.
They are also very difficult to get on
