I have had the devastating news that I am to be made redundant at the end of July :( I went on line and calculated my redunancy - I started in June 04 went travelling in June 06, returned to work in Apr 07 (10 months) and have been with the company since. I was happy enough with my "package". But have now recieved a letter from the company confirming my "package" and it is half or what i expected as they have calculated from Apr 07 as my start date... When i left to go travelling to did up my P45 so I could claim back my tax, there was never any doubt of me not returning to then. Can they do this... sorry boss coming running out of time to type!!

Phone NERA on (lo-call 1890 80 80 90 or 1890 20 16 15). I think that you should still have the earlier date as your start date although you would not be able to use the days you were on leave in your overall calculation unless it was authorised by your employer. Anyhow, get the official word above.

    Good luck.

(Dont forget if you are made redundant you can automatically qualify for back to education allowance which is paid at full rate even if your SW payment is at a lower rate.)
