Dell not connecting to wireless network

    Hi,

I've a Dell Inspiron, approx 8mths old which won't connect to the wireless network at home.

It's not a network problem but something on the laptop.

Basically, phone and other laptops can connect to the network. My Dell can see the eircom wireless network, I can enter the Network kep which it accepts (and I know is correct) but it searches for an IP address forever. Have I a setting or something wrong?

    Thanks

Have you checked it's not a router problem.
Use a cable and connect directly to the router, and check if you have an outgoing connection.
That will tell you whether it's a wireless or a router problem.

I presume you tried right clicking on the wireless connection and doing a "repair" on it.

Ok, sorry for taking so long to get back to you. Not a router problem, perfect access when I use the cable to connect.

I've tried repairing on numerous and it just hangs at the point of 'repairing ip address'

    Any ideas?

Try updating your wireless drivers. You should find them in Control Panel>Device Manager.

What sort of wireless signal is coming from the router? Is it WEP or WPA for example? Perhaps the wireless adaptor in your laptop isn't compatible.
