try go to some security sites. norton. trend. some virus/malware block those sites too

if you can get to malwarebytes.com download the free version and do a quick scan

Right click the connection icon, select 'repair', then try browsers again. Might do the trick.

    one of the best around

    scanning while we speak

just thinking back to when it started,my firefox page minimise and maximise rapidly

sounds like a virus alright,I just scanned my laptop 2 days ago and only the usual spyware nothing else

maybe the vundo trojan. i've seen before where it stops from going to security sites. google would work but couldn't even search for clean programs/mcafee etc

can you try safe mode with networking?

Is was not the thunder and lightning, hackers have been attacking the Eircom lines all week.

Are you serious? so should i just do a full scan on my computer, just in case?

Can't hurt. But they were attacking eircom dns server i think.
So you could have been redirected to the wrong site (and infected site)

OP, have you got it sorted yet?
You should clear your system restore points too cause they can be resurrected from them.

got my browser stuff going last night

avg picked up 70 virus's and

super anti spyware picked up 16

I generally prefer avast these days for a free antivirus

Also has the option (on 32 bit windows) to schedule a boot time scan, so it'll do a full scan before windows starts. helps with difficult virii

yeah I heard that norton was supposed to be good this year. not as sluggish as previous versions

    AVG is good

it also has a useful function to scan every day X amount of minutes after startup.
I have mine set to this, and its something I'd reccommend rather than scanning on a whim.

if your PC is on 24*7 theres also a 'time' option

Headshot this sounds a lot like the same contention issue I have with vodafone.
Had it before with eircom before I moved to BT.

Contact your ISP about it. Betcha yahoo etc. worked fine for you at 2am or something. I might have to go back to BT because of this, uuuhhhhhhh.

I reckon vodafone are having trouble full stop.
My vodafone ''broadband'' through the phone line is next to useless.

Laptop isnt recognising facebook address and when i try to get to the malwarebytes.com page it says that the page could not be found either.

I'm on perlico and internet has been a bit dodgy for the last 2 days. Not sure whether this was down to perlico or a virus. Can someone please reccommend a solution if it is a virus. I have no idea what scans or what i should download. I have little (or no) anti-virus or anti-spyware software. I did a scan with superantispyware and ran ccleaner and im still having problems

There are a few sites not being recognised and im tearing my bloody hair out.

    Thanks for any help!!

Perlico (owned by Vodafone) and Vodafone DSL are having problems with websites outside of the british isles. Only microsoft, google and a bunch of others which are hosted with a particular company (e.g. nvidia, amd, intel) will work. American and EU websites in general won't work. Some lucky customers are getting normal service during this, so it's a bit of a lottery really.

ebay.ie is hosted in america and won't work.

Vodafone mobile internet are having big problems, probably related to the DSL problems. Same thing again, no US websites accessible.

If you're on DSL, turning off the modem and turning it back on sometimes works. If you're on mobile, sit back and enjoy what Ireland and the UK have to offer on the net:)

In relation to avast boot time scan, how effective is this in catching viruses? Also how long does is normally take to scan this way? I have a 500 GB drive and it takes about i dunno a lot of hours to do this..i fell asleep and left the laptop on all night.

I've had a lot of problems recently with Vodafone DSL, ebay and photobucket simply didn't exist. I switched to opendns and it solved the problem.

I switched FROM Level3 DNS a month ago when I was having the problem and it "fixed the problem".

The only way changing DNS helps, is by resetting the router and giving you a working IP address. Vodafone/Perlico have fixed their problems about an hour ago. Changing the DNS now, looks like it made a difference when in fact it didn't.

In other words, OpenDNS didn't fix the problems with Vodafone/Perlico. But it doesn't matter as everyone is happy eh?:p

I don't know how or why but when I switched ( nearly a week go now) my problems went away, resetting the router didn't help up to that point.
