having a problem where my chain is skipping regularly on one particular gear, big front spocket, 3rd smallest on the back..

Brand new bike which I just got last week, everything I've read online indicates a worn gear/chain, and I checked the cassette and everything looks ok...brand new no teeth are bent or anything...any ideas before I bring it back to shop...

    Cheers

check/adjust your barrell adjuster on the rear cage. You adjust any limit screws?

If its a new bike its prob just your cable stretching a little, typical for new bikes, shop will adjust for ya I would expect if you're not sure yourself.

It wouldn't be the limit screws if it's the third smallest gear on the back and you can access the smallest two. Sounds strange for a new bike as it does sound like that particular gear is worn. As eggie says
"check/adjust your barrell adjuster on the rear cage"
could be just that the cable is a fraction too tight for that gear and it's trying to jump to the 4th
