Looking at swapping my Inspiron 1720 for something smaller.

    My laptops specs are:

    Inspiron 1720 - 2.2Ghz - 240.00Gb HD - 4GB RAM

    - Inspiron 1720 CORE 2 DUO T7500 2.20GHz,800,4M
    Hard Drive 1 - 120GB Serial ATA (5400 RPM)
    Hard Drive 2 - 120GB Serial ATA (5400 RPM)

    Primary 9-cell 85WHr Li-Ion Battery
Jet Black Colour with Matte Finish & 2.0mp camera Carrier For HD,
    Memory Dual Channel 4.0GB (2x2048) 667 MHz
    17.0 Widescreen WXGA (1440x900)
256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    Vista Home Premium

Laptop i've been offered is what I know so far:

    Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (6.1, Build 7100) (7100.winmain_win7rc.090421-1700)
    Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
    System Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
    System Model: XPS M1330
BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A14
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7100 @ 1.80GHz (2 CPUs), ~1.8GHz
    Memory: 2048MB RAM
    Available OS Memory: 2046MB RAM
Page File: 950MB used, 3141MB available
    Graphics Card is an 128MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS

I'm thinking mine is worth a bit more due to CPU, HD (which I presume is around 160), graphics, RAM and battery. Unsure of the trade-offs due to size though. Any advice appreciated.

Bump as I have to make my mind up soon. Should I get this moved to the laptop thread?

if its a straight swap, its a rip off. you should get some cash with that

Yeah thought that. Should I be looking for similar specs to mine in a swap, less or better? Wondering if you have to trade off much going for a smaller one

it depends what you mean by smaller. as in netbook smaller? You wont get near those spec if you are

No not looking for a netbook. Looking for something that can still handle a bit of work. An M1330 sounds ideal but want to make sure i'm getting a good deal.

i mean that smaller one you're offered is not too bad and all that, for the size its a good spec laptop, i just think you should ask for some cash to go with the swap if you do. not sure how much though, depends how old both laptops are in the end i guess!
