Laptop Overheating

My Acer laptop's fan has lately stopped working. I know it has because whereas it used to sound like a car it now doesn't make a sound. I've looked at getting a replacement fan on the internet and that seems like it will work. But if I took out the fan completely from the laptop and then used a cooling pad would that be ok to stop it overheating? It'd be less work and hopefully it would run quieter than the original laptop one.

I wouldn't tbh, i'd be looking at replacing the broken fan. Generally those cooling pads are a waste of time. And i doubt it would be that much quieter than the single laptop fan.

It's very risky to use your laptop at all without the fan working. With nothing to remove heat from the heatsink, it'll just keep getting hotter. Hopefully it would shut off before any damage occured, but I wouldn't use it until the replacement arrives.

And a cooling pad definitely won't do anything, the fan inside your laptop does a very specific job.

Ha ha ya I know, I'll never buy ACER again. A fan it is I suppose then. Does anyone know any good Irish or British suppliers?

Whats the model number of the laptops itself? Probably ebay or the likes is your best bet for the part. Sometimes www.pchub.com have what your looking for but at inflated prices.

It's an Acer 3004WLMi, I've looked on laptopfans.co.uk but I need to find out what the actual model number of the fan is, they don't sort them by laptop name at all. I'm in work at the moment so I can't have a look. I'll have a look at pchub now aswell.

edit: PChub have a few fans in stock alright for the Acer 3000 series. I'll have to wait till I get home to find out what model number the fan is.
