Memmingen Airport anyone travelled there?

I am flying to Memmingen Airport in August with 3 small children to travel to Switzerland (25% of the cost of flying to Zurich with aer lingus) but now I am getting a bit nervous as no one I have spoken to have even heard of the airport including German friends, can I hire a car there with gps and how well is it sign posted to get to on to the main roads. Any other info greatly received

If you click on "Environmental Mobility Check", it tells you that you can get a train to Stuttgart and fly to Zurich

1. It's a very awkward public transport trip to Zurich from Memmingen; minimum 2 changes and ~ 4.5hrs

2. You can rent a car there with little difficulty, including from Avis and other reasonably well known companies.

3. Driving from that area to Zurich is going to be one of the most awkard ways of getting to Zurich I can think of . However, make sure that the rental companies include the Swiss and Austrian motorway vignettes (they probably will but check). Expect ~ 3hr journey.

4. It's very very well signposted there and you will have no problems following the directions on GPS. If in doubt, you www.viamichelin.com to plan it.

Thanks for all the information going to drive definitely actually going to an area about one hour south of Zurich any other information gratefully received

i flew into Memmingen recently cos the flights were €12 (much cheaper than Munich). It was a great alternative although it left a long journey.

They didn't seem to be equipped for large volumes of people - we had all checked in online and had our boarding passes printed but they don't have a scanner maching like in Dublin ariport and so they have to go through the details manually which took longer and there was a huge queue....i'm sure it'll be sorted out soon though!:)

We were thrilled with the bargain flights, they were definately worth it!

hi have been to memmingen in may this year with ryanair the airport is about 4km from motorway.
i am also returning in august (10th) with my children .
there are about 4 carhire companies in the airport but found that it was cheaper to book through autoeurope.com than direct as i have booked through them and they then send me to hertz.

You can drive along the A96 (E54) for 116 km (which 106 km on motorways) in about an hour (add for congestion).

Train €10-20 one way. You may need to add for bus fare from Memmingen Airport to Memmingen Station.
