Outlands - A dance 'festival' in the Backobeyonds!

OK so half the country is broke or on the dole so a couple of us decided to run a little cheap and cheerful mini-festival this August for people that want the buzz of a festival without having to pay the entire college grant for the ticket and €9 every time they go to the bar for a plastic half litre of fetid beer.

It will be a primarily electronic affair: We have Darren Rice (Beat FM Planetlove and Oxegen) to headline and he plays dance, but there's 2 rooms of music and we'll be incorporating funk, soul, disco and rock tunes as well... .

It's just a cheap bit of fun for the people who are skint these days, or simply for those who like keeping it local :)

Tickets are a recession buggering tenner (plus a nominal booking fee for the nice man in the shop) and will be on sale from this weekend in Rollercoaster Kilkenny. They are already up on www.tickets.ie Transport will be avaiable from Kilkenny to the venue too.

    Hiya,

    Thanks for the interest.

It's all about the cheapness these days isn't it? ... We were actually going to have official camping but the insurance for this was prohibitively expensive.

There's plenty of public parks around if you have a crew and want to bring a tent.

You could stay in the tourist hostel which is in the heart of Kilkenny, we'll have transport going to and from the venue, which is.... rural to say the least (about 25 minutes out into the country) so you'll have no bother getting back into the town if that is where you are accomodated..

Yeah them Suburban Sounds lads are the business. Be great to see them in a rural setting. What's the story with beer and all being served at this?

Hi Jay, It's a fully licenced venue, it's just out in the sticks. There'll be a can bar and 2 'proper' bars.

I have heard good things about the Suburban lads alright. We were impressed with their website and following so its really great to have them on board.

Cool. Just trying to invisage. Would prefer to bring my own beer tbh. Will that be allowed? Global Gathering were letting you as long as there was no glass.

Nope, for the simple reason that we are getting the venue for free, which is why we can sell the tickets so cheaply and therefore the only way the owner can make money at all is by selling beer.

He has promised us reasonable prices in the can bar though... probably a little bit dearer than an offie or whatever but certainly nothing like the anus widening financial experience of some of the larger events.

Try Springhill Hotel in KK or any of the b&b's on the Castlecomer RD
