Finally some Emmy luv for Flight Of The Conchords but why the hate for True Blood completely snubbed yet Paquin won the Golden Globe

I really don't want 30 Rock to win any. It is a terrible comedy and to think Arrested Development was cancelled and 30 Rock still lives annoys me.

I'd love to see The Office win a few awards. And I hope Bryan Cranston or Simon Baker gets Lead Actor in a Drama.

Tina Fey is the network goldnen girl

I am glad with Jack McBrayer nom for supporting comedy actor for 30 Rock

Pretty much zip for Battlestar Galactica...again. Then again considering how much The Wire was snubbed, the Emmys are no judge of TV quality.

Edward James Olmos (Admiral Adama) should have definately had a nomination for Lead Actor in Drama series (Bryan Cranston should definately win that, he's brilliant in Breaking Bad) and Mary McDonnell (Laura Roslin) was miles better than any of the other women nominated for Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

I definitely thought that BSG would have more nominations than that... I'm quite disappointed now :(

For the reality TV nominations I'm glad that Top Chef got some nominations, I love that show!

And I really hope The Office 'Stress Relief' wins that category. I cried with laughter watching the opening scenes of that episode. Trying to convince our Health & Safety department to show that clip in H&S training as a 'what not to do' in a fire situation! :)

Pleased to see South Park in the running for outstanding animated program but Margaritaville? I thought that was a pretty run-of-the-mill episode. Would have preferred The Coon, Eat, Pray Queef or Fishsticks to be nominated. As for The Simpsons, when will America stop acknowledging this show which has been diabolical for nearly a decade?

Also Family Guy getting nominated for outstanding comedy series and South Park not getting nominated angers me. Nice to see Lost acknowledged a few times but would have liked to have seen Terry O'Quinn feature in the list.

    Overall, not overly impressed.

Good night for the cable networks showing that good TV can win :)

    Go the Irish

Into The Storm · HBO · Thaddeus O'Sullivan and Brendan Gleeson
Little Dorrit · Part 1 · PBS · Dearbhla Walsh
In Treatment · HBO · Gabriel Byrne, as Paul

    and I suppose

    The Tudors · Episode 302; Episode 303 · Showtime

30 Rock is a funny show but 22 Nominations? Really?

I would so love to have seen Jensen Ackles name on that list for best actor drama but the Emmys never consider CW shows and he was brillant in Season 4 of Supernatural

    Neil Patrick Harris? wtf

Its always pretty much the same shows that get a nod every year.

I am a huge fan of 30 Rock but 22 nominations is alot...although I do want to see Alec Baldwin win if its going to win any...would like to see Steve Carrell win too though :o

Gutted that True Blood not more recognised

Its always pretty much the same shows that get a nod every year.

Which is why I'm a bit amazed that 24 didn't get a nomination this year - it was a lot better than last season and pretty much solidly entertaining throughout.

If any show should have got bumped from the list, it was House. It's still good, but it is nowhere near as phenomenal as it was last year (mainly because it has been hijacked by Thirteen and her issues).

And regardless, Kiefer Sutherland is one of the finest leads in television - it just tends to get overlooked. Cherry Jones was the shows only serious nomination? She was the weakest of the leads this year!

And I hate the Battlestar snub. The finale was rubbish, but it was one of the best shows of the past decade.

    Neil Patrick Harris? wtf

He is bound to be better than the five hosts from last year

Sorry, my bad. It sounded like you'd seen all the seasons and this is a thread about the emmy's with the latest season.

Edit: I was talking about a previous season where he died and was brought back, not season 7.

Some surprisingly deserving winners there for the Emmys..

Particular Bryan Cranston (so very much deserved), Michael Emerson (this the first time he's won for playing Ben.. I know he's been nominated a few times but he deserves it) and Toni Collette (while the series was patchy, her performance was always top-drawer).

Delighted that Brendan Gleeson won the Emmy. He thoroughly deserves it - probably one of the most underrated irish actors and a very nice gentleman.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Agreed.. I honestly thought he deserved it over Farrell for 'In Bruges' last year, but great that he did win it this year.

Haven't seen 'Into the Storm' so might give a watch this week!

I know... I thought that was a bit of a piss poor one myself.

Cherry Jones is quite a renowned actress.. but her performance was a bit lacklustre in '24'.

This is another case of choosing someone who's renowned and revered actress rather than someone who gave a stand-out performance, but not nearly as acclaimed. This is the common trend of the Emmys.

But to be fair, that category was fairly poor anyways!

    - Cherry Jones for "24"
    - Chandra Wilson / Sandra Oh for "Grey's Anatomy"
    - Hope Davis / Dianne West for "In Treatment"

Haven't seen either of the performances from 'In Treatment' but they must have been better than the two from "Grey's Anatomy" and Cherry Jones (all of whose I did see and didn't impress me greatly)
    Rose Byrne for "Damages"

Dianne West is fairly renowned I know her more than Cherry Jones.

But The Emmys do take stage work into account as well.. from Cherry Jones Wikipedia:
Jones is most well known for her role as President Allison Taylor on the Fox series 24, for which she won an Emmy. However, she also has done extensive stage work, including her Tony-winning lead performances in Lincoln Center's 1995 production of The Heiress and John Patrick Shanley's play Doubt, a role which earned her the 2005 Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Play. The play opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre in March 2005. Other Broadway credits include Nora Ephron's play Imaginary Friends (with Swoosie Kurtz); Angels in America: Millennium Approaches and Perestroika, the 2000 revival of A Moon for the Misbegotten, and Timberlake Wertenbaker's Our Country's Good, for which she earned her first Tony nomination.[1] She is considered to be one of the foremost theater actresses in the United States.

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series
30 Rock · NBC · Alec Baldwin, as Jack Donaghy
Flight Of The Conchords · HBO · Jemaine Clement, as Jemaine
Monk · USA · Tony Shalhoub, as Adrian Monk
The Big Bang Theory · CBS · Jim Parsons, as Sheldon Cooper
The Office · NBC · Steve Carell, as Michael Scott
Two And A Half Men · CBS · Charlie Sheen, as Charlie Harper

Very poor list of "lead" actors. I watched the Monk before and didnt realise it was meant to be a comedy, yet I read he has won three Emmys in this category already !!! Hate, Hate, Hate Two and a half men... Charlie Sheen, his goofy friend and a fat kid.. rubbish. And an americanised version of a good british comedy (i.e. where you make a comedy not funny any more).

Nothing like a few years ago... Friends, Frasier, Cheers, Will & Grace, King Of Queens. whats happened to real american comedies..

I am delighted to see Bryan Cranston win for the excellent Breaking Bad. Also it is good to see The Amazing Race win the best reality show yet again.

Agreed, basquille. Megan Mullally's voice makes me want to rip off my own ears and eat them.

Delighted to see Cranston win for the second year in a row. I can't see anything other than really bad writing stopping him making it 3 in a row next year. :)

Must give Mad Men a glance.
